Meet Aaliyah McGuire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaliyah McGuire.

Hi Aaliyah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up before high school, I knew I wanted to be a psychologist. I knew I was good and interested in the human mind and behaviors and I always felt like spiritually that was my calling. One thing about me I did not like or care for high school. I loved playing sports but that’s about it lol so I never applied myself enough to get scholarships or grants. My parents were not that supportive when it came to my college future either so I never really made it a big deal or priority! Fast forward, I also knew I was good at doing hair (at least my own). I fell in love with taking care of hair properly and styling it. Natural hair to be exact. So I decided to go to hair school a year after I graduated from high school. I have always been good at selling things to (which inspired me to be an entrepreneur today)! I actually did enjoy hair school so the whole experience did motivate me to become a professional hairstylist. In the beginning, I wasn’t the best at everything but my eagerness to learn and improve my skills has played a big part in my hairstylist career.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Listen, life is HARD. Anything you try to do in life to better yourself or circumstances is never a smooth sailing road. I have suffered many losses throughout my life and today they are angels that help me get through life. I have been betrayed by both family and friends. For a while, until I got a lil older, I struggled learning how to save properly, love myself, and be confident in my goals. That really happens when you do not properly learn how to let go of things and set a clear mind for yourself! I recently lost a parent which I am still grieving over and that was another big loss. I ended a long-term relationship that was mentally and emotionally AND sometimes physically abusive. All these things I did not expect or at least thought I was prepared for just made me stronger and wiser. I owe my ability to move forward and be happy to GOD!!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a professional hairstylist. I graduated from Paul Mitchell The School Tinley Park in Tinley Park, Illinois. I have been doing hair for about six years. I currently specialize in Locs and Natural hair care. I am very big on keeping the hair and scalp healthy. I love learning about the trichology (science) of hair. Along with hair care, I am known for giving a good color! I love coloring hair and just experimenting with different colors and techniques. I am most proud of my growth as a hairstylist. The amount of education I’ve done to help prove my skills is amazing to me. I am a self-taught hairstylist so any little new thing I can learn I’m always down. I think what sets me apart from others is my consistency, the experience you get when you book with me, and my professionalism. These days so many people prefer to do their own hair either because of a lack of professionalism from the stylist or the stylist simply not washing the hair! With me, the experience is totally different. I make sure the client is okay along with their hair!

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I am always down for collabs. The only things I require from a person is for them to be themselves and love themselves. Good relationships and business is built off good energy from both parties!! If the vibes are not great, we will not be great, lol.

People can also support me by supporting my new hair care line that will be dropping this fall. I do post a lot of hair content as well on my Instagram that anyone can show love to or view. ❤️
