Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Runner.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up playing youth hockey in the area before getting recruited to play college hockey in New England. I’ve always been fascinated by the science behind preparing for sports performance and what goes into preventing injuries. After earning my Masters degree in Kinesiology and working at the collegiate level for a time, I had an opportunity to come back to Atlanta and open Full-Stride Performance in 2016. As the Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Atlanta Gladiators, I get to assist professional hockey players in reaching the next level. Through FSP, I get to help athletes reach their potential and keep them on the ice, field, or court by limiting the likelihood of injury. FSP started with 2 regular athletes on day 1. Our roster size of hard working athletes has grown exponentially in just 4 months.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was tough at first. I was learning how to run a business, market, and coach all at the same time. There was definitely a learning curve and with so much time, emotion, and effort invested in something you love, the stakes feel high all the time. That said, we’ve had quality groups of athletes and boot campers that have made the harder times worthwhile and the good times even better.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Full-Stride Performance FSP for short story. Tell us more about the business.
FSP is strength and conditioning facility. We specialize in elite athlete development and safe, effective group fitness training. In our short time in existence, we’ve developed a reputation for caring about the development of each person that walks through the door. Your improvement the biggest priority. Our athletes are proven to get faster and stronger. Our fitness clientele are proven to lose body fat, build strength and endurance, and get healthier. A lot of facilities say that but we can back it up with coaches that have advanced degrees in exercise science and are certified through reputable sources to provide scientifically-based techniques to each and every client. In other words, FSP isn’t about exercise, it’s about training for goals, whatever they may be.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t know if I’d use the word luck. I was fortunate to save enough to start FSP. It was unfortunate that we weren’t able to open before summer to get more athletes in the door earlier. By the time the doors opened, school was almost back in session. That said, the silver lining is that I had a little extra time to learn the business end of things. Coaching is my life but in order to allow that to happen, the business has to be run in an efficient way that allows everything to run smoothly. A slow first couple of months gave me time to figure that out.
