Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Spells.
Hi Aaron, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was younger, my dad piqued my interest in the entertainment industry. He always had a camera in his hand to film our family, and he always ran his own business. He passed away at a young age, and I believe that sparked my curiosity of diving more into the industry and my determination to become a successful businessman like him. My first business was a music label. Then, I created the production company that I run full-time today.
I’m the CEO and founder of Spellz Productions, a digital media agency that specializes in creating bold digital content for businesses and entrepreneurs – including filmmaking, photography, graphics, and creative direction.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Unfortunately not. From sleeping in my car, being robbed, and having people who I thought were close to me not being able to see my creative vision; the road has been tough. My life’s setbacks have delayed projects, and truthfully, I have also looked for others to put me in the places I belong instead of learning how to navigate to those places myself. I have since learned to look within, trust my talent, and stop looking for validation from others.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My upcoming project is Perpetrators in Government Systems a.k.a P.I.G.S. This is my debut full-length film that I can’t wait for the world to see. It explores activism by acknowledging the oppression inflicted upon the African American community. This film inspires to give the audience to knowledge of black history, sympathy for the lives taken, and dignity towards standing up against police brutality.
My work is against the grain. It’s adventurous. I want everything I produce to feel organic. It doesn’t follow the status quo.
I’m always searching to create something new that can stand against time for generations to come. I want my work to make me feel free and alive when I create anything – photography, graphics, film making, anything artistic. I want my creations to be legendary.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is getting my family out of bondage. Family means everything to me. Being from New Orleans, we’ve endured and repaired a lot. I want to give back to them and bring us all together in a major way. I know I have what it takes. Now it’s just a matter of following my strategies and plans and creating good quality work.
