Meet Abby Bixon of Valitus Strength and Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Bixon.

Hi Abby, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello! My name is Abby. I was born and raised in the Philippines. My family decided to move to the States when I was 18 years old. I moved to Augusta, GA all the way from Manila. I went to College in the Philippines but finished my education here in the States. Believe it or not, I landed my first job at a gas station. I was a clerk in the day while I was going to school during the evening. I eventually ended up moving to Atlanta where I finished college at GSU with a major in Psychology. During College, exercise was a huge part of my life. My usual day was attending classes and then taking a spin class during my break.

In 2015, I signed up for the Fundamental Program class at Valitus Strength and Fitness and I instantly felt empowered. I immediately fell in love with the gym and never left. Since then the gym has made a huge impact in my life. It is where I fell in love with fitness and where I took my health seriously for the first time. As the new owner of Valitus Strength and Fitness, I am looking forward to spreading the message about the amazing community Valitus has. I hope you’ll get the chance to come visit us one day soon.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have dealt with what seems like endless obstacles in my life. From moving to an entirely new country and way of life across the world, to becoming a small business owner, I have dealt with a multitude of challenges. While every day seems to bring with it a new barrier, I have found that these barriers and obstacles can be great tools for learning. I am confident that I have made my fair share of mistakes, but learning from them and treating them as opportunities instead of failures has made a huge change in my life.

We’ve been impressed with Valitus Strength and Fitness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Valitus Strength and Fitness is a functional fitness gym that focuses on a mixture of Olympic weight lifting movements and gymnastics. We have an absolutely amazing facility with some of the best equipment around. Most importantly, we have coaches that really care about our members.

We focus on group classes for the coaches to work closely with members and motivate them throughout their workout. We are currently offering a variety of membership levels with some amazing deals on our fundamentals program where you can learn to properly lift.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
My professional life has been a series of risks. I’ve walked in multiple shoes throughout my life and every time I put on a new pair I was taking a risk. The first risk I took was transitioning from working as a Behavioral Therapist to a career in the fitness industry as a Spinning Instructor.

However, the biggest change and risk for me was when I took over ownership at Valitus Strength and Fitness. This has been my first real job where I have been in charge and it has definitely been a learning experience for me. That being said, it has been an amazing experience worth every bit of the risk I took.
