Today we’d like to introduce you to Abner Ramos.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was born in Chiapas, Mexico my parents brought me to The United States at the age of 1 looking for a better life, as most immigrant parents do for their kids. Growing up I never knew what I wanted to do career-wise. My parents always suggested being a doctor, lawyer, teacher, etc none of which caught my attention in any way. High school comes around I start hanging out with a couple of friends, one of them always carried a camera with him a canon t2i ( nothing impressive ), we would like to dress clean and take pictures of each other, never thought anything of it we would upload them to Instagram for fun. In the next couple of months we grew local following specifically the high schools around us. Other students would message us to take pictures for them. At first, it was for fun, but I quickly realized this is what I wanted to do, the only time I could spend hours doing something while enjoying it. I saved up for my own camera once I finally got it I started investing all my time into photography, taking pictures of car shows, concerts, my friends, to taking pictures of my dog. I wanted to do it all. Photography had quickly took over my life; this is what I wanted to do. Once I felt comfortable photographing anyone and anything I started looking into film. This is where I am at today it’s easy keeping someones attention for a couple of seconds on a cool picture but keeping someones attention for a couple of minutes on a video is a task I’m still learning, none the less it’s another chapter in my life I’m willing to get lost in.
Please tell us about your art.
I am a photographer & videographer. When it comes to my photography, I like creating my pictures in a natural setting. I never ask my client to pose. I like catching them off guard. Doing a natural move always looks better than striking a pose. I tend to just talk to my clients as I’m taking pictures, I try to make them laugh or ask them how their day is going. What I want people to take away from my art is to feel comfortable when they see my pictures. I want them to feel how my client was feeling that day. Confident, peaceful, joyful. As if they were there when I took the picture.
A lot of my inspirations comes from my friends. When I first started taking pictures I started with them so any future clients I have I try to build a friendship before working with them it makes them more comfortable to open up
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
The only advice i can give an artist is never give up what you love for who you love.
Your career will be there regardless of who comes and goes out of your life.
Surround yourself with people on the same mission as you; your circle will motivate you on the dark days.
The lesson I wished I learned earlier is take your craft serious regardless of your age. Social media has opened doors for anyone with a passion, therefore give it all you got.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I have my own website with my photography portfolio.
