Today we’d like to introduce you to Abriona Haywood.
Abriona, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I never imagine being a Barber! I’ve always thought my passion was cosmetology. Until I met my barber instructor who changed my LIFE! I moved to Georgia Jan 1, 2017, from Mobile, Alabama. I relocated to make a better future for myself by chasing a dream. Wanting to be around the world for my great barber skills. This journey has not been easy at all. I moved to a state with no family, friends, or money. I have encountered many many obstacles in my time of being here and they have only made me stronger and mentally prepared to take on any challenges that come my way. I’ve been rejected, talked down on, homeless, no transportation, hungry and Eager. Two years later, I’ve been blessed to open my own business!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has not been the easiest. When I moved here, I encountered a long difficult process for me to be eligible to work in the stare of Georgia. It took four months for my barber license to me switch over from Alabama for me to work. In the meantime, I decided to post a picture of my haircuts on a dating site which worked immediately and I drove to clients home to cut their hair. This soon became dangerous and I had to stop. I then begin to work at IHOP until my license was successfully switched over. In between my car was repoed which made my dreams even harder to be reached. But that didn’t stop me!
