Meet Abundance Stephens of The Stephens Agency

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abundance Stephens.

Abundance Stephens

Hi Abundance, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In the season I got started, I had recently settled out of a worker’s comp case with my former employer as I ended up getting carpal tunnel in my hands, had surgery on both hands and the job did not want me to come back unless I was 100% healed. Healing would take time — and the company was unwilling to place me in another role so I could continue working.

Our finances began to diminish and through that experience I decided I would never again allow corporate America to control my income, my time, or my future. I didn’t know exactly what I would do — but I knew I was a hard worker and wanted more for me and the people around me.

At the same time, I was working second shift. I barely had time with my children or my spouse. There was provision but I wasn’t present.

One particular Friday night, We were invited to a dinner party at my husband‘s coworkers’s home. After mix and mingling, a young lady stood up & began teaching financial concepts I never heard before even though I majored in accounting in college. I worked in various areas of money and knew if I did not know these concepts, my family & friends didn’t know either. Additionally, she spoke about business, about licensing, and working for yourself.

And she said one sentence that shifted my life:
“I will coach and train anyone who wants this opportunity.”

That night —I knew this was for me!
Me and my husband got started 4 days later on Tuesday and I was in training the next
About two years later we opened up our financial firm, The Stephens Agency.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The exciting part about entrepreneurship and business ownership is that while you’re serving the community, you’re also discovering yourself. You grow, you develop, and you step into who you were always meant to become.

One of the biggest misconceptions about working for yourself is that you suddenly have all this free time. The truth is, you now have responsibility over your time. No one creates your schedule for you anymore — you do.
I had to learn how to manage my activity to work towards my desired outcomes.

Before business, I worked second shift and my husband worked third shift. We were constantly coming and going — providing for our family, but rarely present together.

When we started in business, about a year and a half later, my husband transitioned from his job to working full time in business with me.

And suddenly… we saw each other every day. Worked together every day.

It was beautiful and great!
And Challenging.

We are both hard workers. We are both adamant about success. And because of that, we had to learn how to work together — not compete, not control, but collaborate.

We continue to learn and honor each other strengths, stay in our lanes-we both swerve sometimes (lol) – and trust one another’s leadership. Even when we challenge each other, we genuinely enjoy growing and building this business together.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
