Meet Actor, Singer, and Songwriter: Tramaine Deshawn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tramaine Deshawn.

Tramaine, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My grandparents and I moved to Atlanta in 2004 right after my grandfather retired from the Army. I attended Mt Vernon Christian Academy when theater caught my attention. During that time I performed in The Nutcracker. The first year was a supporting role and the next I was the lead. The Arts only continued to grow as high school came upon. I attended Douglas County Comprehensive High School studying both theater and music, starring in The Boyfriend and James and the Giant Peach. During that time I joined a boy band by the name of Unisyn. We were signed to an independent label under Universal Records called Davision Entertainment, After performing and recording for 4 years, I realized that no one can push me more than I can. So I went rogue started doing things on my own. I later did a couple of background acting to get myself familiar with the film world. My latest work earlier this year in a stage play called Come Alive Human Family in Atlanta and Selma. It consisted of a series of Monologues based on the Civil Rights Movement. I was a Producers Assistant and starred as both A Phillip Randolph and Elijah Mohammad. Now that I know what directing and producing feels like, I bought a camera and I’m now working on a project that consists of a series of skits (Dramendy)

Has it been a smooth road?
It was definitely not a smooth road. I kept on going after not making it all the way on American Idol and The voice. Let’s not talk about the number of Roles I didn’t get. lol

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
Being comfortable in my own skin.

Were there moments when you had to struggle?
Omg, waiting in audition lines for hours and not getting picked. Watching artist and actors surpass you right before your eyes. Omg, not having enough money to get auditions or even headshots

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely! Atlanta is booming with new projects for actors. Just the history in itself is artistic. Our city has lots of character and strength to pull the talent right from within. Plus Atlanta is the new Hollywood
