Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Gueguen.
Daniel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started off with a drinking problem, vodka was my downfall. My life was in ruins I had no job and was living on my mom’s couch , broke. I decided to get sober shortly after I started working out at lifetime fitness with a friend. The gym became my new addiction and I lost over 50 lbs in 6 months through my meal prep that I do personally and cardio. After I lost the weight I started lifting heavy my bench press went from 135 to 295 in one year for my max. I haven’t had a drink of alcohol since March 28, 2014, since then I have gotten engaged, fixed my credit to near perfect, bought a house , and went from part time deli employee to manager in two years. The gym is my new addiction , it saved my life ! Through a combination of recovery, God and fitness, I have gone from near homeless to homeowner , from overweight and out of shape to six pack abs and from lonely and alone to in love and engaged.
Has it been a smooth road?
No there have been many obstacles the biggest one staying sober and living a crazy productive life trying to get on my feet from the downfalls of addiction.
Have you ever wanted to stop doing what you do and just start over?
The toughest moments in my career/life so far have been giving up my addiction to alcohol. Especially the first 3 months . I had a lot of cravings and was very depressed. I went from living a life of complacency to a life filled with new obstacles . I had to grow up and I had to grow up fast. I was a 28 year stuck in the mindset of a 16-year-old. I had accomplished nothing in my life . So learning to be a responsible member of society was one of my hardest tasks. I went from being a person who did not follow the laws to a person who can’t tell a lie. A mentor of mine once told me something that stuck , he told me ” be a man of your word” . I took this to heart and it has gotten me very far in the 2.5 years I have been sober. I am now in management with my company, I own a home, I am engaged to a wonderful and beautiful woman and I am happier than I ever have been.
What would you tell someone who is just starting out?
” Be a man (or woman) of your word” Don’t tell people what you think they want to hear. Tell them the truth and be faithful to what you say. Set a goal every month and meet that goal. Tell yourself every day I will meet my goal. You will be surprised at how your life will change for the better.
What are you most excited about these days?
I am excited for my career at my job and the endless possibilities they give me. I am also excited to start my meal prep business on the side. Through my meal prep, I was able to loose 60 lbs in 6 months easily.
