Today we’d like to introduce you to Adebayo Akinsola.
Adebayo, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I studied medicine in Nigeria and completed a residency program in pediatrics. After that, I got involved in research, specifically on vaccines in The Gambia, West Africa. Three years later, I moved to New York, USA and completed another residency training at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital. On completion of my residency training, I moved to Atlanta GA and worked as a Pediatrician in both Private and Public establishments. As a passionate child advocate, I was not satisfied with the services offered to my patients on many fronts. I also could not implement the necessary changes I felt were necessary due to so much bureaucracy. I then decided to step out on my own to start a practice where I could implement the necessary steps and procedures to effectively care for the “whole” child (physical, mental, social and psychological health) and give them the opportunity to perform at their optimum in all areas of their lives. This is how BayBol Pediatrics came to be, our mission statement being “we are committed to providing comprehensive, high quality and affordable medical treatment”.
I am happily married to Bolanle, who is a pediatric emergency medicine physician and we have 2 sons, Ayowole and Adeoba.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was a challenge to set out on my own and leave the comfort and reassurance of a guaranteed salary. Starting a new practice from scratch was a little intimidating especially when considering the cost. I had to find an office, furnish and obtain medical equipment, hire staff and also look to advertising the practice. However, God saw me through all the challenges I faced.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about BayBol Pediatrics – what should we know?
BayBol Pediatrics is an out-patient pediatric practice. We manage children from birth to 18 years and carry out annual physical check-ups, school and sports physical, vaccinations, vision and hearing screen etc. BayBol Pediatrics goes beyond treating physical ailments. At our pediatric office, we work with our patients to promote physical, mental, psychological, and social wholeness. We’re engaged in their school performance, family structure, and social interaction. This connection allows us to ensure the child’s well-being and healthy development.
I have a special interest in school performance of my patients and deal with such issues that affect this, especially ADHD. We are committed to providing comprehensive, high-quality, and affordable medical treatment- especially for patients without health insurance. At BayBol pediatrics, we treat all of our patients with the respect and personalized attention they deserve. We believe in treating the whole child so, each patient’s plan is wholly personalized by a doctor who truly cares and I believe this is one of the things that set us apart from other pediatric practices!
Our staff is highly sensitive to parents’ needs. We understand that parents have hectic schedules, so, we are always flexible with appointments. We have same day appointments, late clinics for those who work and are open the first Saturday of every month.
Here, we strive to maintain an environment that is both accommodating and inviting. Patients of any and all cultures are welcome. I am multilingual and can communicate in English, Spanish, French and Yoruba.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I am passionate about children’s well-being and I have always been a child advocate. I get along with them really good! I am patient and listen carefully to concerns of my patients and their parents and spend quality time explaining the necessary lines of management. I believe this is why my practice has been successful.

Quite an inspiring article Dr Akinsola. I am so glad Baybol goes beyond treating physical ailment of children. Social interaction, home structure, school performance (as you stated in your article) should also be put into consideration when administering medical care to children since they are in their formative years. I prayerfully wish Baybol the best.
