Hi Adrian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey in web3 and cryptocurrency began in 2017 in response to my friends that invested in 2010 and saw great success. During this period, I learned everything I could about blockchain technology and cryptocurrency, specifically bitcoin in which I too began investing a lot of my income into. After seeing success myself, I not only became a believer in bitcoin but blockchain technology as a whole. The vision to innovate the music industry became clearer, my plan was to introduce a music marketplace that operated on the blockchain giving artists another option outside the traditional one. In 2018, I decided to develop and release the white paper for Digital Currensy Inc., and the “Smart Music Marketplace” detailing my idea of music distribution utilizing blockchain technology. Despite having a cutting-edge concept, the lack of adoption made it extremely difficult to get things rolling but this all changed during 2020 as NFT’s surfaced and gained popularity. It was no coincidence, during this time, I got connected to inventor and founder Milan Cheeks who was able to bring my vision of music distribution utilizing blockchain technology to life.
Today, I am seen as an influential NFT Advisor and educator in the web3 sector and have spoken at every major NFT conference this year which has allowed me to align myself with individuals like Treyous Jarrells, co-founder at 8IGH. 8IGH is a blockchain company whose main focus revolves around incorporating blockchain technology into the sports industry, leading with education. Treyous and his team are responsible for developing the ATL 8IGH DAO, the world’s 1st professional basketball team to operate as a decentralized autonomous organization “DAO”. After being approached by the team at 8IGH, I decided to join the DAO, serving as one of the 88 influential members. As an 88, I will be an owner, decision-maker and advisor for the ATL 8IGH DAO. For me, it was a no-brainer, basketball has always been a driving force of mine. Having the opportunity to have ownership in the 1st professional basketball team to be controlled by its fans was one I was not going to miss out on.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey has been a long and lonely one. Trying to convince people that blockchain technology was real and would be applied to real-life businesses was becoming draining. Not only was it difficult to build a community around what I was trying to accomplish, it was impossible to raise capital to actually be able to showcase the vision. I’ve been rejected 80 times for potential investment and based on my professional experience, I’ve yet to see any African American founders receive funding for their ventures and/or ideas. As a result, I find myself seeking opportunities that entail building with young African American founders like Treyous.

The ATL 8IGH DAO is the world’s 1st professional basketball team to be owned and controlled by its fans using blockchain technology and NFTs to showcase ownership and governance. The basketball team will be based in Atlanta, Georgia and will be competing in The Basketball League, the 3rd largest professional basketball league in North America. Uniquely, The Basketball League is the 1st professional league in the world to be founded by an African American woman, Mrs. Evelyn Magley. Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
For all the visionaries out there, never give up on your passion or idea and learn everything you can about emerging technologies. The light bulb will turn on if you are receptive and available for the opportunity.
