Today we’d like to introduce you to Adric Samuel.
Adric, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My journey started in 2013 in my college dorm room at Western Kentucky University talking to my roommate about building a platform/ lifestyle brand that inspires and drives other individuals to be their best self everyday. The original idea was just a simple word that was catchy and had a meaning that is where “Huda Guru” came from a derivative a Greek word meaning Right Guidance leader. I than left western the next semester and began creating sample shirts back in Atlanta.
I could never get the brand off the ground like I hoped for when it first came to me, but the sketches were all there and so many ideas had been tucked away, I had to take time away to better understand myself so I left Atlanta again and enrolled in the military the next year and was gone for all of 2014 until September I had graduated from Basic/AIT training completely, I was now a U.S Solider.
God Grant me strength throughout all my journey. I chosen to become a Paratrooper and I was given the opportunity to become an Honor Guard Solider doing military funerals. When I say that was an experience in itself, I jumped out of planes once a month and wore my knees down until it was almost bone on bone in my ligament and joints, Painful to say the least. Military funerals were an honor to do for the serviceman, but they were draining mentally because all I saw were crying children and family members everyday. I needed an outlet and I was taken to my first yoga class by my mother and It changed my life.
From that day, I fell in love with breathing all over again. Sounds awesome right, I took a weekly class with my family at a local park in conyers “Johnson Park” and went there every Tuesday until one day the classes weren’t being held there anymore. I had to outsource and find my new yoga so I referred to Instagram and looked for every Atlanta Based Yoga and was at all of the events I could make it to, this was 2017.
In 2018 I planned to get certified because I enjoyed the practice that much, so I did and by December 2018 I was a certified yoga instructor. Next plan was to do market research. The Demand for it was heavy in the Dekalb/ Conyers area where I was raised so I reached out to every company in those areas and it worked. I am currently contracted throughout the county of Rockdale as a Yoga Instructor at Olivia Haydel Senior Center and Johnson Park where it all started. I host event once a month with my business partner also do private sessions to work in the underserved communities. I teach off Panola road at Citta the Soul as well.
God is good ain’t he. I’m here to have a good time serving my people with my body that belongs to God.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No road is smooth but the outlook on the drive is what’s most important, because if you can’t purchase a new car, you better dodge the potholes, making the best choices. I didn’t always dodge them, but god never took his hands off me. So I would say I am battle-tested and war ready.
If he is for me who can be against me ya know.
