Meet Adrienne Pullen of Love Pulp in Conyers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrienne Pullen.

Adrienne, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Since I was a kid, I had a passion for anything art related. I loved drawing, painting, fashion design, and interior design. It truly all came natural to me and I thank my dad for that. He is a very talented artist. My future career choices were always centered around art but it was constantly changing once I learned a new skill. I first fell in love with crocheting when I was 12. My aunt bought me a looming kit one summer, and I started off by making scarves, but I wanted to learn more. So my grandmother suggested I learn how to crochet, and I did it for about a month and gave up. At 12, my patience and maturity were no match for the arduous work of crocheting. I decided to practice honing my crafts since then, and I launched Love Pulp in 2019. After making some sales, I shifted my focus from selling garments to honing my craft again. The hiatus helped me immensely and I proudly relaunched Love Pulp in June of 2020.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has not been smooth at all, but I would not change anything about it. The biggest struggle was my mindset; I had to shift my mindset a lot throughout my journey, in order to adapt to my environment and its changes. Everything I produce is handmade, so it takes a lot of time and emotion to create each piece. Outside stressors often times affected the timeliness of completing an order or new project but I am much better at processing my stress now.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Love Pulp story. Tell us more about the business.
Love Pulp is my crochet garment line and I am the sole designer/maker of every piece. Since opening back up for business, I only produce pulpkinis (Love Pulp’s twist on bikinis) and tops. There will be new designs for sale in the fall/winter of 2020.

I am most proud of the revamping I did with my business and myself. The hiatus helped me grow a lot, and I feel so much more confident with my business and designs. The second thing that I am most proud of is one of my custom designs that I made for a close friend to wear to Afropunk, was featured in Nylon magazine. That was really exciting!

My additional talents and the way they are implemented into Love Pulp sets me apart from others. I love modeling, designing, and coding, and they have all been assets to my business. I have modeled most of my designs, I designed my own logo and all of my pieces, and I also did some coding on my website. I’m very thankful that I can do so much more for my business besides crochet.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I do not believe in luck, but I believe in calculated happenings. Everything is calculated to happen based off of my choices, decisions and their consequences. Whether they had a negative or positive impact on my life, they were all meant to happen. I have made plenty of mistakes and experienced a significant amount of success in my business, but everything was a learning lesson. I am thankful for every learning lesson.
