Meet Afolabi Ayanwale of Amir’s Nitrogen Ice Parlor in East Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Afolabi Ayanwale.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Afolabi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As the youngest of three siblings, I have always worked hard to make a name for myself. Having spent much of my adolescence developing my business prowess while helping out in my family’s store, it surprises few that I went on to found Amir’s Nitrogen Ice Parlor. As a proud graduate of Jackson State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Engineering, my roots in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics along with the birth of my first son, inspired me to create Amir’s Nitrogen Ice Parlor with a goal of boosting a community interest in all things STEM.

Has it been a smooth road?
Getting to this point has been no small feat. One of the most prominent challenges was initial planning and implementation. I have come to understand why people opt to purchase franchises instead of creating their own business. Creating and then operating your own business can be compared to understanding and analyzing the different systems of a human body—circulatory, respiratory, digestive, nervous and reproductive. If one of your body systems failed, it might not be long before another system consequently became debilitated. Similarly, as a business owner, I had the challenge of not only identifying and creating a series of interrelated systems but how to combat potential system failure at every plausible level. This process, initially, proved to be highly time-consuming during the planning stages. Watching all the systems eventually come together, however, has afford me great satisfaction.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Amir’s Nitrogen Ice Parlor – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I cringe at calling Amir’s Nitrogen Ice Parlor “my business.” While I am the proprietor, I firmly believe the day-to-day operation and continued success of Amir’s Nitrogen Ice Parlor rests largely in the hands of the great team in place. Collectively, we share a willingness to strengthen and grow our business by utilizing everyone’s talents.

Amir’s Nitrogen Ice Parlor is an ice cream and shaved ice parlor that we affectionately call our “lab”. Named after my then one-year-old son, Amir’s Nitrogen Ice Parlor opened to the public in January 2019. We specialize in creating what we have coined “Science You Can Eat”: freshly made desserts implementing liquid nitrogen for a smoky cool treat. Our menu options allow you to come in and create your own customizable ice cream or shaved ice Flavor Formula complete with a variety of tantalizing flavors and decadent bar of toppings.

Our bonus menu includes Dragon’s Breath cereal puffs and Oreos frozen using liquid nitrogen allowing each bite to produce “smoky” bites. It’s a fan favorite among kids and adults, alike!

What sets Amir’s Nitrogen Ice Parlor apart from other Atlanta dessert shops is that we provide our customers an immersive science experience from the moment they step foot through the door. Not only are you encouraged to make a hypothesis about the most delectable Flavor Formula you can create, but you are given the opportunity to watch your nitrogen treat be made right in front of you before donning am optional lab coat and goggles to report your taste-test findings.

As a company, we are most proud of the active role we are taking to reignite a community excitement surrounding science, technology, engineering and mathematics by providing a tasty example of Science You Can Eat!

What is “success” or “successful” for you??
I define success as the growth you endure while in progress of achieving a goal. While many people will equate completion of the goal as success, I think the process is what affords you wisdom—something far more valuable than an end goal. Wisdom, ultimately, will lay the foundation for future success.
