Hi Akeame , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey began with a simple but powerful desire—to inspire people to become the best versions of themselves, both physically and mentally. Growing up, I learned early on the value of discipline, perseverance, and faith, which became the foundation for everything I’ve built. Before launching KiYah Athletics, I worked across several fields—healthcare, wellness, behavioral support, and emergency services. Notably, years with my Herbalife team made a big impact in my life and was the catalyst to a lot of the success I’ve reaped today. Each role taught me something vital about people, purpose, and the importance of showing up with excellence no matter the circumstance.
Those experiences shaped my understanding of leadership and human potential. Eventually, I decided to merge my passions for wellness, purpose-driven living, and community empowerment into what is now KiYah Athletics LLC. The company was founded not just to sell apparel, but to create a movement—one that celebrates strength, resilience, and identity. “KiYah” represents a call to rise, to move with intention, and to live with purpose.
Today, as CEO, I’m proud to see how far we’ve come—from humble beginnings to becoming a growing brand that stands for authenticity, empowerment, and faith. My journey is still unfolding, but every step has been a lesson in faith, perseverance, and service to others.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I started KiYah Athletics from absolutely nothing—just faith in Yahuah, vision, and determination. I trained my first 14 clients for free, not because I had to, but because I wanted to build trust, prove my worth, and make a genuine impact. Seeing their transformation—physically and mentally—was the foundation that kept me going.
What most people don’t know is that I started this company during the height of COVID, while I was under house arrest on a federal indictment. I wore an ankle monitor and could only leave my home between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Every day, I faced the reality of possibly spending 21 years in prison. But instead of breaking me, that season built me. It taught me the power of mindset, faith, and resilience.
The journey since then hasn’t been easy. Funding has always been one of my biggest challenges—I’ve financed everything out of pocket. My past sometimes stands as a barrier, but I’ve learned to see it as part of my testimony, not my limitation. Through it all, I’ve been blessed with a loyal team that believes in the mission just as much as I do. They’ve stood by me, often with little to no pay, simply because they see the vision and the purpose behind KiYah Athletics.
Every obstacle has refined me, not defined me. And for that, I’m truly grateful.

KiYah Athletics is far more than a fitness or apparel brand—it’s a movement built on empowerment, strength, and purpose, with a special focus on celebrating and uplifting women. These are women who’ve faced challenges, setbacks, and self-doubt, yet continue to rise with grace and grit. Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Yes—there’s one very important part of this story I can’t leave out. The name KiYah comes from my daughter, MyKiYah, who is the heart and inspiration behind everything I do. She’s not just my reason why—she’s my legacy. KiYah Athletics was born out of my love for her and my desire to build something she could one day call her own.
Every color, every pattern, every design you see in our brand carries a piece of her spirit. When I’m creating, I think about the kind of example I want to set for her—the strength, the grace, the faith, and the modesty I want her to embody as she grows. Our recent shift toward a more modest, purposeful collection is a direct reflection of her influence.
This brand isn’t just about fitness or fashion—it’s about family, faith, and legacy. KiYah Athletics represents a father’s love, a daughter’s inspiration, and a shared vision for empowerment that will live far beyond me.
