Meet Akyra Williams of AK Aesthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Akyra Williams.

Hi Akyra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It’s funny how my current career originally started as a side hustle. In 2019, I was in my second year of college and working at a local daycare. At the time, I needed a way to make extra income because I wanted to buy my own car. I finally decided to become a lash artist because lashes are one of my favorite natural enhancements. AK Aesthetics, formally known as Ooh La Lash, started off in the living room of my parent’s house. In the beginning, I didn’t have many clients, so I would go to work from 10pm-6pm and work on my business from 6pm to 12am. Unexpectedly, my “little side hustle” became my pride and joy. I found my new passion — being a lash artist and boosting other’s confidence! December 2019, I graduated with my associate’s degree and decided to take a different path. Originally, I anticipated to start school in January of the following year, but the world got a little crazy due to the pandemic so I had to push back my start date to November 2020. I then enrolled in the Elaine Sterling Institute for the esthetics program while still working my day job and running my business.

I took a leap of faith and quit my job in May to focus on school and growing my business. Balancing all three was getting to be too much and my heart was telling me if I wanted to take my business to the next level, I had to make sacrifices. I completed my program in December 2021 and decided to open up my own beauty and wellness spa in Roswell, GA. The grand opening will be in February 2022!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Success isn’t linear in the slightest, so this definitely has NOT been a smooth road. Everyday, I learn more and more about the challenges that an entrepreneur faces in both their business and personal life.

I live in Atlanta, Georgia… the hub for all things beauty and wellness! In the beginning of my career, the hardest part was building my clientele. I was also a little insecure because I was comparing myself to other lash artist. I had to realize that you truly are your own competition. The moment you realize that is the moment you can really take yourself to the next level. Your goals and priorities change! Another challenging thing about being an entrepreneur is the fact that you never know how to factor in time for yourself. Your business is your baby and it really consumes you. You can get so distracted and forget that taking care of yourself is equally as important.

As far as personal life, entrepreneurship can reveal the relationships in your life that have a strong bond and the ones that don’t. You will lose friends along the way because both of your lifestyles may clash. It may be hard to date because you feel you cannot give an adequate amount of time to your partner. You may often feel misunderstood, but over the years I’ve realized this does not have to be the case. It is very important to build your tribe! Surround yourself with good energy and other people who understand. Find those who genuinely support you and you will always come out on top!

Although I’ve faced some difficulties along the way, I honestly wouldn’t trade this for the world. My business had opened me up to so many different experiences and people. It was one of the best decisions I could have made.

My name is Akyra Williams and although I provide a variety of services, I specialize in lash extensions and specialty facials. Before becoming an esthetician, I originally started off as a lash artist. However, now that I completed school I decided to expand into my other passions as well.

My clients expressed to me how when visiting other places, they were not given brushes for their lashes and were not provided aftercare instructions for services they received. I think that is unacceptable and for that reason, I make it my mission to ensure that my clients are properly informed and educated on their service of choice, as well as providing them with any additional aftercare products they may need.

AK Aesthetics amazes me because we have always stayed consistent and maintained our authenticity. Every single client is treated with love and care. If something goes wrong, and that doesn’t happen often, it is resolved immediately! I can always guarantee 100% satisfaction when visiting.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I live on Youtube University, lol. In all seriousness, I really do spend a good amount of my free time on Youtube. I love learning about financial literacy, business, astrology, psychology, self-growth, and femininity. I guess I just named a lot of things, but these topics are influential in how I live my day to day life. Learning about the different things that interest me have helped me in the beginning of transitioning to young adulthood. Although Youtube is everything, I want to get into listening to audiobooks or just reading more in general. I’m currently reading “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” and ” The People Factor”. Once I’m done with those, I plan on reading “The Art of Seduction” or “The 48 Laws of Power”. I like to read different blogs from ASCP to learn more about treatments and modalities in my industry. Beauty is forever evolving and it is very important to make sure that I stay on top of my game!
