So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a 21-year-old Political Science Major and Business owner that attends Georgia State University. School is my first goal and dream. Receiving a four-year degree will be the biggest thing for me and my family. with my degree, I have plans on going to law school. however, I couldn’t keep letting my talents go to waste taught my self to do hair, makeup, and nails. I wouldn’t be here today without my family, as long as I’m following my dreams, my family supports. I was always taught that I can do whatever I put my mind to and I intend to do that.
Has it been a smooth road?
My road just began but it still hasn’t been the easiest. In the cosmetology industry, building clientele is the hardest thing that has to been done, not everyone is ready to trust upcoming nail techs and makeup artist. Being an entrepreneur is hard and being patient and trusting that you made the right investment.

I am a self-taught MUA and Nail Tech. My business is called Angel’dbyAlania. I began my business on March 11, 2019. When I was looking for my birthday set and who would do my nails, I became fascinated with all the shapes colors and designs. I was watching the girl do my nails and decided that I can do this! When I received my refund from school, I decided it was time to invest in myself. I also do makeup and hair. Hair is something that I learned to do when I was a little girl but it isn’t something that I decided to make my money off of. Makeup was the first thing I fell in love with, the process of doing my eyebrows, putting on eyeshadow, lipstick, and lashes. I was on the high school dance team, we had to do our makeup every Friday before the game. Only one girl knew how to do makeup for real so I asked her to teach me because we wasted too much time waiting to get our makeup done. For a long time, I just focused on school and getting my degree but once I moved back home for work, I knew that I couldn’t keep working these uninspiring jobs, so this year, I choose myself and my happiness. I wouldn’t be here today without the tremendous support from my family and friends. All of my first clients were family members, they let me make mistake after mistake but they still wore it proudly.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Honestly, any city will be good for a business like mine, nails, hair, and makeup is something that has become big. Graduation, weddings, parties, vacations, and proms are always happening everywhere, therefore, the need for those things are not going anywhere anytime soon. With the right networking skills, any city would be perfect. Everyone with the big business once thought their city wasn’t the right location for their business, but they keep on promoting themselves and believing in their business they will go far. Where you start is not where you will end. Don’t limit yourself to “your city.”
