Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Evans.
Alex, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My freelance design career began in 2004, when I took on graphic and medical equipment design contracts with a local laboratory. After earning a degree in Industrial Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design, I formed One Desk Solutions LLC in 2010 to continue serving my small group of loyal clients. By day, I worked full-time as a designer and then engineer. By night, I completed freelance projects.
I was successful by many measures but my relentless work-ethic was taking its toll on my happiness and health. A pivotal moment came in the summer of 2016. In the span of a week, I lost my full-time job and my classic dream truck, that I spent a year painstakingly restoring, was stolen. The events were blessings in disguise as they prompted me to reconsider who and what I valued most in life. After careful thought the choice was clear. I took a leap of faith and began building One Desk Solutions LLC.
That choice changed my life and work for the better. The flexibility of entrepreneurship allowed renewed focus on family, friends, health and my love of the outdoors. Working with great clients that share my interests and values restored my passion for design. The business grew and through word of mouth alone I more than doubled my client base. The future of One Desk Solutions LLC is promising.
Has it been a smooth road?
Running a business always presents challenges. One such challenge is balancing client projects and projects to promote my business. The next promotional effort will be developing a robust web presence for One Desk Solutions LLC.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the One Desk Solutions LLC story. Tell us more about the business.
One Desk Solutions LLC offers freelance design services including graphic design, illustration, brand development, technical documentation and product design. I possess an artists eye and an engineers mind hence the combination of creative and technical services. I specialize in transforming a client’s rough idea into reality. I am always interested in learning about new design challenges.
I choose my clients carefully and treat them as I would hope to be treated. One Desk Solutions LLC provides creative, timely, and professional results to diverse markets ranging from restaurants to government organizations. I take pride in the repeat business I have earned and have several clients that have relied on my creative services for over a decade.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I believe the demand for contract creative services will continue to grow. In my experience this growth is driven by several factors. First, many small businesses require creative expertise but have insufficient workload to justify hiring an employee. Secondly, businesses small and large are often prevented from bringing a creative professional in-house due to the regulatory and financial burdens inherent in the hiring process. Finally, many businesses with established creative departments require outside creative input. Regardless of the reason for the demand, I look forward to providing a solution.
