Meet Alexa Preyer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa Preyer.

Hi Alexa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up, I always wanted to be a medical doctor. As I got older, I thought I wanted to specialize in orthopedic surgery. As a collegiate athlete, I had to undergo surgery on both of my knees, and I quickly learned that orthopedic surgery wasn’t my calling. Throughout my physical therapy journey, I learned that as a physical therapist, I would be able to establish a rapport/relationship with my patients that would allow me to tap into their goals and further impact their lives beyond a surgical procedure. I knew I wanted to work with athletes like myself, but I wanted to make a bigger impact. When the opportunity to partner with Benchmark Physical Therapy came, I knew I had to take it. I am a partner in the Mableton, Ga clinic which allows me to evaluate and treat patients off all demographics and diagnoses from the west side of Atlanta to the Smyrna/Vinings area.

Being a partner with such a large organization gave me the entrepreneurial bug. So, I am also the co-owner of The Movement Training, Rehab, and Recovery. The Movement allows me to create an even greater impact in the greater Atlanta area by providing concierge PT services and contracting with gyms and sports teams to provide in-house rehabilitation and recovery services.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I think, like many, the biggest struggle I faced as a business owner has been the COVID-19 pandemic. Labeled as an essential workers, we fought to keep our doors open and to make sure our patients were taken care of. Our numbers dropped significantly and we transitioned to primarily telehealth visits for a time. It was hard, but we came out of it on the other end. Now, my biggest struggle is staffing. Patients are coming back in droves, and we need more help to care for them all. I have a fantastic team and support system for both Benchmark and The Movement to help through the struggles and to celebrate the wins on the other side.

We’ve been impressed with Benchmark Physical Therapy – Mableton and The Movement Training, Rehabilitation, and Recovery, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Through both organizations, it is my goal to call upon my personal experiences, resources, and knowledge to educate, inspire, and empower people of all demographics to live a healthy lifestyles both physically and mentally and to be a constant resource along the way.

I am a doctor of physical therapy who primarily works with the outpatient orthopedic population. I specialize in the treatment of high school, collegiate and former athletes, trainers, and active adults. If you like to work out and/or compete in athletics, I’m your girl!

My caring and compassionate nature fuel my desire to care for the community I live and work in. I have an inability to quit that does not allow patients to fall through the cracks of the private healthcare system. And I strive to build a rapport with each and every patient that goes beyond a diagnosis and treatment plan. You will often find me at a game or competition of one of my athletes or in a workout class with another. The connections created are long-lasting.
