Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Jesus Burgos.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Alexander Jesus. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story began when I was 14, auditioning for my first play and honestly first audition. I was very green and knew nothing but quickly came to the realization that I wanted this to be my career. I wanted to do something where I could completely change my life and my family’s life. Especially after experiencing my mother go through breast cancer twice, and my sister being diabetic. Thankfully they are both still with us. God has blessed me and my family greatly. A successful career as an Actor/Producer can give me the platform to convey a positive message of hope and the resources to never see the people closest to me ever struggle again.
Let’s back track a bit more. I lived in Dominican Republic from ages 7-14 and was bullied almost the whole time. From elementary school to just about the end of middle school. Now school in DR is different, you are stuck with the same core group every year as you move up in grades. So whatever reputation you have, IT STICKS. I was the scrawny kid that stood out because I was a “gringo”. I got into fights, tried to get a girlfriend, squeeze my way into the “popular” group. You guessed it. It didn’t happen.
I had the opportunity to change schools to start high school, so what did I do? I Switched it up. Believe it or not I told myself “Imma be like Drake from Drake and Josh”. Guess what? I actually did change. The following year I was popular, known across the whole school, played sports and had, well you know, a girlfriend or two. My point here is that when I decided to change ME and not force change around me, things started to brighten up. After high school and college, I started working as a personal trainer. My body was getting bigger and my passion for acting grew, so what did I do? Literally picked up everything and moved to Atlanta to pursue the dream. My mom said “Damn you are crazier than I was” haha. Then two years later, did the same and moved to LA.
Now, I’ve been acting for ten years, been a personal trainer for six years and every day I get closer to my dreams. Pastor Ron Carpenter once said – “Small steps one day turn into big moments” And I will keep doing exactly that. THERE IS NO TIME TO SLOW DOWN! I am closer to my goals and dreams than ever. Creating content from Movies to spoken word that shines light on topics that are shoved away or difficult to convey. I always put God first on everything I do because I know the path he puts me on is the one I need to be in. Doing so in this career will resonate globally.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has definitely not been smooth. I started this journey at 14. At the time I lived in Lehigh Acres, FL where I went to high school after moving back from Dominican Republic. Once I turned 21, I decided to leave my personal training job, with my Associates in business under my belt and drove to Atlanta GA, with God and my families blessing and nobody waiting for me over there. I was fortunate to find a apartment in a not so good part of town where gun shots were like fireworks. But hey, I had a place to sleep.
A few months in, my roommate decided to leave so I had to break my lease and sleep on my new friend’s floor for three months while working almost full time as a background actor and working at an obstacle course. While that was going on, I was filming countless short short films with a team I joined and staying as physically fit as possible. It all payed out because I booked a supporting role in an indie Christian film called “Blackbear” with the legendary Eric Roberts where I played an antagonist MMA fighter. It was also my first experience performing my own stunts. Now I have a movie on Netflix!
After this, and almost two years later. With newly found friends and prayer, we decided to drive a straight 32 hours to the City of Angels to elevate our careers. Now things got fishy as we had to sleep in parking garages and our cars for the first couple of weeks. In the midst of this I met my now great friend and business partner whom we run Phoenix 4 productions together.
Fast forward to almost three years later, I have an agents, a manager, an online personal training business “BURGOS FITNESS” that just keeps going up and a support system that I am very happy to have. Regardless of the downs, the ups outweigh them and have molded me into the person I am now. I will never give up and will always be grateful for every single moment because they put me where I am now.
Tell us more about the business.
In my online training business “Burgos Fitness”. We focus on strategizing your everyday life to directly reflect the goals and lifestyle you desire. By doing direct 1:1 coaching tailoring a full 90 day program to your needs where we guarantee results in every aspect of the word in record time. I am most proud of the people we have been able to help, not just lose weight but turn their life around for the better, reversing and preventing any illness or disease and rebuilding that once before high school athlete. The main thing that sets “Burgos Fitness” apart from others is that we don’t only focus on the body but rather the mental game and aspect. If your mind isn’t in it, then you aren’t either.
Aside from my online training business, I see myself as a business in this acting industry. Where I have to stay on top of my game and always be ready. Plus working alongside a production company helps too.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
None at all. What other people refer as luck, I see as a blessing from God, answer to prayer and His correct timing. Of course, hard work, focus and shedding the blood, sweat and tears is what gets us to that specific moment where preparation meets opportunity.
