Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Moomey
Hi Alexander, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Started as a highschool dream with a close friend of mine, Jason Ruiz, we would skate after school everyday including after we graduated. We would record videos for a YouTube, which then turned into starting our brand. The initial skate brand dream so niche, and was not performing well even after 4+ years. So, I then rebranded as Lair Fashion, which took my focus of one niche and broadened the spectrum. Lair infuses the original idea and brings it to the streets. the crowds focus tends to be towards street-wear, so that opened the doors to many more possibilities. The Lair logo is graffiti inspired to tie back to its roots, the people of the streets, and redefines it for all to wear. I simply got the inspiration from Thrasher, Thrasher started as a skate brand, and now is worn by just about anyone.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As shortly explained before, we started with something too niche, so we had to broaden our spectrum on what we were truly looking for in our brand. Another obstacle is almost everyone is starting a brand and there are always people trying to tell you how to do it or what is right and wrong. So we had to decided what was going to have us stand out, what makes us different? These are the questions we ask ourselve to keep furthering our goals and ideas. If we are settling and staying on the same ideas we are not growing and will not grow. The fashion world is every changing and you can’t just keep up with trends or what is trending, because if it is already trending you are too late. We face the main obstacle as most new brands; exposure. Exposure is hard in the short form entertainment world, along with standing out and starting trends. Those both go hand in hand when growing a brand.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I don’t particularly have a specialization or something I am known for. I’m somewhat of a modern “Jack of All Trades”, I am a music producer/ sound engineer, I do graphic design for my brand, I record and edit podcasts for myself and my local church, and a philanthropist/ entrepreneur. Why do I say I am a philanthropist, because I give my time and resources to others to help achieve their goals, where I know I can be a bridge for them. I know what it is like to be stumped and not know what’s next or if someone doesn’t understand what you are trying to accomplish. I don’t have the most knowledge on all that was listed, but I do have enough, I feel, to get started in the right direction to reach set goals. Which is why I name myself a modern “Jack of All Trades”.
Any big plans?
For my brand I started with up-cycling old brands with my log graffitied on them as a statement to fashion against top brands. I want to continue that but in a more original approach and actually create pieces that are more complex and are their own statement without a logo, and something someone can proudly wear. I’d love to continue this in my own store front and create a workshop where artists and creatives can come together to release their own line of clothes with the support from someone who has done it. I think these both tie in with who I am as a person and what the brand means.
