Meet Alexandra Bonner of Tampa, Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Bonner.

Hi Alexandra, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Ever since I was young, I always found joy in reading comics, taking videos/pictures, and being in front or behind the camera. As I matured, I soon realized the beauty of filmmaking, and it quickly became something I wanted to pursue.

Filmmaking has become the space where my imagination meets empathy. Every step-writing scripts, capturing moments behind the camera, or collaborating with my cast and crew-teaches me something new about myself and others. It’s more than just art; it’s a process of listening, understanding, and transforming emotions into images that connect with people. When my short film was screened nationally, it felt surreal to see something that once lived in my mind reach audiences across the country. That moment showed me the power of sharing your perspective and how art can create unity through shared experiences.

Filmmaking gives me a sense of purpose-it’s how I process the world and contribute to it. It allows me to give voice to emotions that words can’t capture and to build bridges between people who might not otherwise connect. Every frame I shoot and every story I tell brings me closer to understanding who I am, where I come from, and how creativity can shape the world around me, and it influences me everyday to push harder toward my goals and dreams.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Overall, my road has smoothed out as I’ve gotten older. However, when I was younger I would struggle with self Image primarily due to attending predominantly white schools, and living in areas where I would not see people who share the same struggle, and skin color as me. However, with the love and support of my closest friends and family, I’ve grown into accepting and understanding who I am. Every single day, they remind me of why I do what I do, and why I always strive to love and support them as they do the same for me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
enjoy film, photography, and editing. I began editing at the age of 6 with an app called ‘funimate’, which was a silly app similar to TikTok. As I used the app, my passion for editing and film grew stronger. As my skills improved, I became more confident in my abilities and decided that pursuing a career in the industry was the right path for me. My specialties include creative problem-solving, project management, and adaptability, which have allowed me to stand out from others in the industry

Additionally, filmmaking has become the space where my imagination meets empathy. Every step-writing scripts, capturing moments behind the camera, or collaborating with my cast and crew-teaches me something new about myself and others. That moment showed me the power of sharing your perspective and how art can create unity through shared experiences.

What draws me most to film and photography are its ability to connect emotion and intellect. Every shot, edit, and sound choice carries meaning. A film and photography don’t just tell a stories; they reflect society’s values, challenges its norms, and sparks conversation. That said, I am most proud of the project including filmmaking and photography I’ve done. From my very first film, I wrote at 15 and directed at 16, “The Gift and the Curse” to my most recent film ‘Ice C.R.E.A.M. Truck”, I am proud of the work that I am putting out thus far, and I am planning on putting out much more. I hope my films will reach and inspire many audiences., leaving a mark on the industry.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about Atlanta is its rich culture and diversity. Being from Atlanta and now living in Tampa, I can truly say there is no other city as dynamic as it. One thing I least like about Atlanta is the issue of individual identities. I feel it’s important to dress and act as who you are, and not as what is striking to others
