Meet Alexis Harris of Alexis & Company in Metro Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Harris.

Alexis, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m an Atlanta-based actress, writer, director, and producer. My career was officially launched in 2013 when Ellen DeGeneres chose me, out of 20,000 women, to be the new face of “easy, breezy, beautiful” CoverGirl cosmetics. As a result, I’ve served as a brand ambassador and social correspondent on behalf of CoverGirl and The Ellen Show for projects such as: the Academy of Country Music Awards, the BET Awards, and the Black Girls Rock! Awards. Since I’ve continued to gain experience on several television and film sets with roles ranging from featured to lead while simultaneously earning a Master of Arts in Communication from Johns Hopkins University. I am currently a doctoral student at Clark Atlanta University where I’m earning a Ph.D. in political science. Ultimately, I hope to prove beauty and brains can and should coexist; and I use television and film to bring attention to social issues affecting communities of color. As a God-fearing Christian, I’m never ashamed to thank God for all He has allowed me to accomplish.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been smooth sailing! I released a book in December 2018 called “When Dreams Feel Past Due” and it’s available on Amazon. From falling in love with a new dream to experiencing heartache because of its delay, the prose on every page details a journey that is far too familiar. Divided into four chapters, this book provides an intimate look into the relationship between the dreamer and their dreams while offering solace to those who need it most. This one’s for us. It details all of my struggles to show dreamers that we all experience the same struggles, such as: lack of support, no funding, burn out… but it’s not all bad. It hasn’t always been bad nor will it always be bad. It’s like a rollercoaster. The book details those ups and downs.

Please tell us about Alexis & Company.
Alexis & Co. Studio is taking over the metro Atlanta media scene by specializing in photography and cinematography for independent creatives. With beyond-reasonable rates, accessible acting classes, and flexible filming schedules, we look forward to serving the most talented people in the nation. We’ve done many films, photo shoots, acting classes, and our most popular project has been a web series known as “Harper’s Radar.” It’s available on YouTube.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have learned more about budgeting as it relates to film making, photography, and acting. It’s so easy to get trapped into thinking you have to spend tons of money because people charge so much for their services. I would have taken more advantage of free resources and networking opportunities. Collaboration is key!
