Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Montoya.
Alexis, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
At the age of 15 years old, I knew I wanted more than just a regular job. I began selling anything and everything I found lying around in my room. This included gifts, clothes, hats, etc. It was cool to know I could easily make money just selling things, so it came to my attention that this is what I like to do.
I started to buy items I knew I could sell to my friends & family, which led me to shoes & clothes. I did it a little bit here & there, nothing major. But in my sophomore year of high school is when I took off. I was buying ten shoes, 20 shoes, 30 shoes and I couldn’t stop. I would buy them & sell them so quickly at times that I couldn’t even take a picture of all of them at times. I loved the fact that I was making money at my age.
Mind you, around this time, I was about 15 so I had more money than all my friends combined. I felt unstoppable & just felt like a baller. I didn’t want that feeling to ever go away & that drive & mentality is what leads me to today.
I am 21 years old now, still selling shoes & clothes. I also own an online program called Resell Essentials Course that contains close to 500 students, where I teach students how to begin their resell journey.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As a young entrepreneur, I’ve faced multiple obstacles. The same way that I’ve made money is the same way I’ve lost money as well. Being an entrepreneur is not supposed to be easy, so every challenge I face is just a learning experience. Some months will be great, I might make $10k profit, but then the next month, I might make only $4k profit. You just never know what can happen & that’s why every day, it’s important to give it you’re all.
As far as REC goes, COVID-19 helped my business tremendously. People who have joined have become pandemic FREE. Meaning, they made money through one of the worst times in history. REC as a team thought it would be tough to make money during this time, but we looked at the problem & found solutions quite quickly.
Please tell us about Resell Essentials Course.
Resell Essentials Course was founded in July 2019. It is an online program that teaches others how to begin their resell journey. As a team, we sell anything & everything that contains value. If we can buy an item(s) for $50 & sell it for $110, by all means, we are buying it. Profit is profit. REC is known for being an informative program/chat where you can find out what items are releasing & what you should buy.
To be the owner of this is a great feeling; my goal of 500 students felt like a long shot until that moment came. REC has students as young as 14 years old doing $30,000 in sales, which is absolutely nuts.
What sets REC apart from other programs or chats out there is that we network & help each other grow as a team. With students in the U.K, Los Angeles, New York, Florida, Georgia, and so on, it’s fascinating to see everyone eat. Because I am from Georgia, the majority of my students are based here, which does give them an advantage to buy/sell/trade with each other locally.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I wouldn’t. I look at all my L’s as Lessons. You know that feeling you get when you JUST take an L? That feeling only lasts in my system for less than 24 hours. I’m grateful for all my L’s just as much as my W’s. I’ve learned so much such as how to market my program, how to network through social media, how to run promotions, & much more.
The only thing I would’ve done differently would be not to short myself. I thought 500 students would take me till the end of 2020 & I managed to hit that goal by May 2020.
