Meet Lex Hayes of Melanous Jewels in Conyers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lex Hayes.

Lex, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started collecting crystals roughly 5-6 years ago, a few years after graduating from Rockdale County High School, Class of 2013. I was on a journey of self, healing and I really was dying to find my voice in the world. Professionally, I had already worked as a catering assistant and as a licensed esthetician; the experiences were not the best. Although, I learned a lot and worked my tail off with the situations all ending the same way. Me feeling unvalued and wrong for desiring more love and fairness in the work environment. However, the biggest thing I learned was my ability to connect with people and my personal power to heal others through food, touch and now natural crystals. With the help of YouTube, I tapped into another creative ability and began to make my own jewels. I studied crystals more as I started to use them on clients in skincare/relaxation services to aid in healing. From there, I began to gift them for special occasions birthdays, holidays and it all grew from there. What was once a passionate hobby become a new way for me to make extra income. After that, I spent all my extra money on crystals, different wires, & tools to continue to nurture my passion and now my business.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road at all. Everyday life and fear hurt the beginning years of my business. I was so young and lacked the discipline required to focus on all areas of things like I needed. The little things consistency, availability, and actual branding were lacking big time. Fear of failing, not being welcomed and just never having that example of a successful business owner. Yes, I was passionate and pretty good at what I did but that didn’t make me good enough to have what it took to run a successful business? Thankfully I had wonderful friends who supported me and continued to speak life into me and my business. I lost everything at one point and it was during this time I really took the time to heal myself and truly loved myself. I found my voice, I found myself and I found my power! From that point, everything transformed for me, I stopped letting my fears cripple me and I started to be the boss for myself that I never got. I begin to choose the desire to better myself and heal others over the fear/stress of whatever delaying me.
