Today we’d like to introduce you to Alisha Isani.
Hi Alisha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born to immigrant parents that are both South Asian and come from a hustle culture. Emotions were not always a priority because the ultimate goal was ensuring there was food to eat on the table every day. The focus was to be able to provide their children with what they never had – economical stability. It did not mean emotions were not a priority, it was just non-existent and not their fault.
However, nobody talks about the guilt that comes from not being able to fulfill those expectations. Growing up was always a constant battle between ensuring that I take advantage of the tools provided to me while also attempting to ensure that I had work-life balance.
I did what every hard hustler does, you find a way that works. I attempted to find a way in and climb the ladder. In my case, I started in medical charting, moved onto becoming a medical assistant through a scholarship, running the floor at an urgent care, upgraded into an urgent care that gave me some backing which led me to get a foot in the door for a dermatology clinic, and eventually opening a med spa.
Let me tell you, I do not need to label myself to identify who I am and what I come from to tell you – it is tough out there. People do curse you out, people do underestimate you, and people definitely do test you no matter what level of life you are at. That never changed.
Hustle culture is what got me here, taking on my parent’s dream is what keeps me here, and a brighter future for my future kids is what keeps me going.
It’s not savings what got me here, it’s the right time investment that did. Building relationships, belief in yourself and the team you gain along the way, and passion is what create the vision.
The toughest thing I learned by the time I got to my business is that kindness is not kindness in business, and it can be your biggest enemy if not placed in the right hands.
The greatest thing I learned from business is, appreciate the little things, if you don’t you’ll be at your next goal, thinking about your next goal, and never satisfied.
The biggest thing that built me was a statement my father taught me – there is no positive or negative because there will always be negative where there is positive. So, you pick up what you can and appreciate how that adds to your life.
So, besides the hustle culture, the working multiple jobs, and watching where my parents come from, I am who I am because life is what you choose to make it. When you think about happiness and continuously appraise it, the rest will come.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest struggle has been work-life balance. Ensuring that I am able to properly give attention to myself mentally and both emotionally was a struggle and still is. I overcompensated my energy towards my future and did not spend enough time taking in what was happening in the moment.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Something surprising about me that people who know you or my work/brand might not know about me is that I truly never expected to be here. My path was very different and like others, we do not know where our paths will lead us. I was on the path to med school or nursing!
