Meet Allan “AJ” Edwards

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allan “AJ” Edwards.

Hi Allan “AJ”, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started in taking music serious in high school, playing guitar in a local band called Rodinia in my hometown of Virginia Beach, VA. Years later, I got into more into producing and songwriting. Then I moved to Atlanta where Was f my friends Mike Maven had just moved to and just started hopping around the city. My first real foot in the industry was with a song called “Finessin” which I co-wrote and produced for this artist Baby E and featured Lil Wayne that was on the No Ceilings 2 mixtape. More recently, I produced and co-wrote “No” & “100” with my brother Miltone on Rotimi’s Unplugged Sessions project as well as “Unbothered” on Omarions “The Kinection” project. I also have another record on the way with Omarion that he also opened up with on the Millenium Tour called “Elevation”.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think too many people have a smooth road in the industry, there’s no real road map and I’ve never had a manager or team or anything like so I’ve really had to navigate and just learn through trial and error and navigating it that way. I think the biggest struggles have been really just persevering through doubt and maintaining that level of confidence to keep going when you hear no a million times. Sometimes you feel on top of the world and other times, you just ask yourself “Am I really even good enough to do this?” But at this point, I feel more confident than doubtful.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a Music producer/Songwriter. Over the past few years, I’ve really been more focused on doing mostly production but I enjoy doing anything I’m the creative process as a whole. Writing, playing guitar, arranging, programming drums whatever role I need to play to get the best outcome for the song.

How do you think about happiness?
Real relationships at this point. Whether it be business or personal, friends or family, I believe experiences with people I care about and genuinely care about me bring me the most happiness.
