Meet Allison Chambers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Chambers.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I guess I have been on an art journey most of my life, but it was not until 2007 when I married my husband and together we became a family of 8+ ( 5 girls,1 boy,3 dogs 2 cats ,various other small critters and 2 overwhelmed parents ) did the most amazing chapter of this story begin. Jay totally supported my heart’s desire to study oils, so I did under Andy Braitman who I now teach with. Art then became my obsession, my therapy, my passion, and my great joy. There are many of my paintings that have stories under them of some of the blended family struggles we faced daily, that I could write freely in oil bar, then easily cover with layers of oil paint… very therapeutic! As my family grew, so did my business and my teaching. Now we are close to being empty nesters and we really feel like a family and I know painting is not only my work, it’s such a part of my story, for which I will be forever grateful!

Please tell us about your art.
My art tells a story of the places or the things that stir my soul. Many of my pieces are inspired by my travels to France or Italy, but my favorite place on earth is the low country of North and South Carolina. I love the smell of the pluff mud and the salt air and think of that as I paint those marshes or boat scapes. My journey has been to paint a loose interpretation of whatever is on my easel using a variety of brushwork and a unique color pallette.

The main thing I know is that I will paint until I can no longer stand at my easel, and then I will sit! It is an honor if anyone appreciates my work, but I will continue even if they don’t, because I have to paint. It’s like breathing…

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
Certainly art can be used as a form of expression and also support for many causes. For me, I really enjoy being able to support causes that I am passionate about such as mental health (specifically MHA Carolina) with donations of works of art for auctions and events /fund raisers.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I am represented by a number of wonderful galleries in the Southeast including Huff Harrington in Atlanta, Ga. Please check my website for my information.
