Meet Alpharetta Empowerment Coach, Photographer and Actress: Tammy von Nordheim

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy von Nordheim.

Tammy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I believe in living in my truth with no apologies and following my passions of helping others to become empowered. I founded a group called Girl in the Glass, a women’s empowerment group and also iEmpower Me, Too, Inc. a non-profit that empowers men, women, teen boys, and girls. After modeling and acting for almost 25 years, I discovered my talent in photography and it fit well with my goals. Realizing that many people never set goals and even less reach them, I naturally began to mentor others and thereby recognizing another passion to add to my list. I obtained my BA in Psychology, became a certified Theft Addiction Counselor, am currently in grad school getting my Masters in Social Work, and am in the process of becoming a Certified Anger Management Specialist. Ultimately, I will become a Licensed Therapist where I will be able to help even more people discover who they are and guide them to believing in themselves and learning to become independent thinkers, doers, and change agents.

Has it been a smooth road?
Initially, not having the confidence or believing in myself enough to follow through with my dreams I postponed my life. I’ve since empowered myself to do what I love and to push to continue learning how to do it better. My motto…”Always a learner so that I can lead with confidence”. Finding the courage to push past fear to accomplish my dreams gives me pride and strength to continue breaking barriers. There is no glass that cannot be broken.

How would you describe the type of kid you were growing up?
Growing up, I was observant, quiet, and a little shy. Interestingly enough, I was also outgoing, inquisitive, and fun! I studied piano and played the clarinet in the concert and marching band. I was also a varsity cheerleader for two years for both basketball and football. I entered and won several beauty pageants as well as created, planned, and executed my own local events. Through my entire childhood, I was an avid reader and books were my favorite pastime taking me to far away places, instilling out of the box dreams and aspirations for this small-town country girl. I soon discovered that I had a passion for understanding why people behaved the way they did and wanted to help encourage others to set goals and then reach for them.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory would be packing a small bag with some water, a snack, and a favorite book and going on a hike to find someplace quiet to read a good story, and reflect on what my future might hold. I was always planning and dreaming. I also remember playing board games with my family. And visiting my grandmother overnight and eating as many lemons and pickles as I wanted during that time was great too! LOL.

What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future include becoming a licensed therapist and opening a private practice to empower people who are struggling to make sense of the what’s and the why’s. I will continue to create beautiful images with photography, and find some time to write, read, and travel at my leisure.
