Today we’d like to introduce you to Alton Williams Jr.
Alton, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
T.R.A.P. Fitness started as an idea many years ago that required a lot of preparation, planning, and faith.
Although I did not know every detail, I knew that I wanted to make a difference by helping others reach their fitness goals. I also knew that I wanted whatever was being created to be bigger than myself.
Without the proper credentials and knowledge, none of the ideas in my head would have been possible. I received an MBA from the University of Memphis in 2017 to feel more comfortable handling everything that would come with business and in 2018, I made things official by becoming a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. By this time, the idea of T.R.A.P. Fitness was established and it was a matter of executing.
Through the process, I learned that whenever you take a step towards reaching a specific goal, God will in return, put the necessary resources in front of you. The biggest “step” that I had to take was leaving my corporate job to pursue my passion. I realized quickly that something had to give. If I would have continued to try to do both, it would have stunted the growth of something special. When I felt that I had received confirmation from God that it was time for a new chapter, I wrote my letter of resignation and never looked back. Since then, the business has grown and continues to do so!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road at all but when you love what you do and you work with people you love on a daily basis, it makes the grind worth it. I’ve been blessed to train some amazing people. Even when the road isn’t as smooth, they inspire me to keep moving forward.
One of the biggest struggles has been working with the resources you currently have. Although we have plans to expand, we are currently a small business and not having the access to some of the equipment that some of the larger franchises have can be frustrating.
Although that is a hurdle, I’ve made a conscious effort to focus on more of the positive things and less of the negatives. With that being said, I realize that all I have is all I need. I’m content but not complacent.
We’d love to hear more about your business.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I’ve always been intrigued with my purpose and fulfilling it. I’ve always focused on being the best version of myself that I could be.
I was really focused on basketball growing up. Realizing that I needed a competitive advantage to standout in city full of so much talent (Memphis), I honed in on becoming faster and stronger. During this time, my love for fitness was born.
