Meet Alvaro Moreira of Moreira Team

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alvaro Moreira.

Alvaro, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve lived in Atlanta my entire life. My father was a custom home builder, so naturally, I grew up on work sites with him and my brother. I worked every summer alongside my Dad & brother from about the age of 10. These summers were my introduction to real estate. Not only did I learn about real estate, but I gained an incredible understanding and appreciation of hard work and what it truly meant to work as a team. When the time came for college, I was accepted to UGA on a scholarship and studied finance. After graduation in 2005, I decided to go into the family business as our financial consultant. After several sub-par experiences with Loan Officers around Atlanta, I began brain storming. I knew there had to be a better, much simpler, way to help our clientele with their financing needs. This realization led to my decision to go into the mortgage business full time. I wanted to help the community I was raised in, where I feel the most connected, where I am home.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like most things in life, the journey to create my business has been anything but smooth. I became a full time Loan Officer at the end of 2006 and within less than a year, the financial crisis hit. I was new to the business and this quickly, and understandably, changed everything. The national brand mortgage company I’d started my career with closed their doors within a matter of months. I knew this was the opening I needed, though, to push me into something better. The solution came quickly, I would start my own business and be in complete control of my future. As quickly as this came to me, so did the notion that my brother, Alex, had to be a part of this. We were always close and with this unique skill set, I could feel we were creating something special.

We started from the ground up and our business blossomed for several years. We were creating a model that not only served our community & clients with knowledge and professionalism, but also leveraging technology as a way to keep costs low. The idea was by being extremely efficient thru technology, we could pass the cost savings to our clients. We’d found our competitive edge in the market.

In March of 2015, our team and business were growing, and we suddenly lost Alex. I was devastated. My brother and business partner was gone without warning and I had two choices. I could let the biggest challenge of my life defeat me, or I could move towards the vision we’d shared for 8 years. I chose the latter and, as they say, the rest is history.

We’d been lucky enough to have an incredible team with us and to this day, I’m positive I haven’t thanked them enough for their love and support. We grew stronger, smarter, and closer after Alex’s passing. Amanda, who is now our Operations Manager, took the reins and helped me the steer the course towards our goals and aspirations. We built off Alex and I’s vision and continued making incredible progress. Amanda brought her own unique ideas to the team and added an operations & processing perspective that we didn’t know we were missing.

We continue to face challenges as any company does but we will never stop learning or growing our business. We have meticulously added team members to strengthen The Moreira Team and am happy to report the best is yet to come! We truly have the best team around.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Moreira Team story. Tell us more about the business.
The Moreira Team is a boutique mortgage lender and broker that takes a consultative approach to mortgage lending. We are honest, knowledgeable, and utilize the newest technologies to streamline the loan process. The technology we use allows us to provide the highest level of customer service while maintaining our competitive edge of passing those savings along to our clients. Our methodology is to avoid ‘selling’ our clients, be highly responsive, and have the knowledge necessary to offer a wide range of loan products. This has given us an advantage in our market because the culture we’ve created is so special. This culture is what I’m most proud of. The cornerstone of our Company and Team is based on working together as a team to provide an outstanding customer experience to our community.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Based on my personal life experiences, I define success by the difference we make in people’s lives. We are being trusted with the biggest financial transaction of their lives and we want to provide an authentic connection with every client and earn their trust.

Our positive feedback and increasing referral business tells me we are on to something good. I truly believe by being technology savvy, transparent, and sincere, we can make a difference in someone’s world. To me, that is an amazing success.
