Meet Alvin Sun of Java Saga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alvin Sun.

Java Saga is an Atlanta-based food truck serving up coffee and other mouthwatering treats. Alvin Sun, the truck’s founder, was working as a Wholesale Real Estate agent when he decided he wanted a change. After spending some time in Taiwan studying the art of coffee with the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE), Alvin returned to the states and opened Java Saga.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The first year was a rough start. First was finding the right crew to help me out. However, the biggest struggle would be finding enough events. While locating events should have been the top priority, I focused on the daily operations at our usual spot next to Grady Hospital. In addition, our generator couldn’t provide us the power required, where I had to, unfortunately, drop events because we couldn’t be supplied power. Going into our second year, we have a new generator and many events lined up. The newest struggle goes back to the first where I’m short staffed because members of my crew have conflicting schedules.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Java Saga – what should we know?
Java Saga is a coffee food truck. We serve caffeinated drinks to those in need, in addition to teas and smoothies to those that don’t like coffee. We’re known for our coffee/espresso drinks. During events, we serve our Big Ole Chicken (giant fried chicken fillet) and our mango smoothie. I’m proud of my crew and how far we’ve come.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Crystal Petersen (girlfriend)- created brand identity, logo, and website.

Tracy Covington (agent) – booking us for many events.

My crew – there’s no I in team. I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for them helping me during events.

Fraternity brothers – role played positions while I mapped out the layout of the food truck with painters tape in the living room of the fraternity house.

Family – no explanation needed.
