Alysia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am the founder of Lysii_hairstyles L.L.C. I started doing hair as a side hustle in 2019 due to people taking an interest and liking the hairstyles that I did on myself. As time progressed and Covid-19 started, I was soon shown an opportunity for myself that I was unaware of. We were in quarantine which led to businesses being shut down. The decrease in services and goods led more people to come to me to get their hair done. After two years of putting in the hard work of service to my clients, I decided in the Summer of 2022 to start my own hair business.
A little back story of how I came up with my business name because I am sure people are curious to know. The first part of my business name, “Lysii” originated from a nickname people call me. I am also very versatile in styling. I decided to not limit myself and make my name broad, hence the word hairstyles in the title of my business.
I have had many successful stories and testimonies from clients and recurring clients that made this business what it is today. If it was not for their generous support and time, this business would be nonexistent today. Thank you to everyone that has supported and continuously supported me on this journey!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The ride itself has not always been easy. I am a full-time student currently. Although I am about to graduate, most of my business startup was done during the challenging parts of schooling. I have also had to work full-time and be a full-time student. There have definitely been some obstacles because of this. I have had to step back from my business to work on school and work. I have had to multitask, and sometimes stay up all night doing school work and wake up to work on my business or with a client the next day. No, it has not always been easy, but I love what I do. I love providing a service to someone in need and seeing their face light up at the end of the service. I love making connections and conversations with my clients. I love getting to know them. I love seeing my clients feel comfortable enough to talk to me. This experience makes the challenges and obstacles worth the while!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My hair business specializes in natural hair services for women and men. I provide faux loc extension services and braiding services as well for women. My business is known for authenticity. I am charismatic to my clients to ensure they have the best experience. This is not to benefit me personally, but to show and brighten their day in any way I can. This is the brand I am most proud of. I am content that I was able to create a logo, brand, and business out of something I like to do for others in general. I offer low costs hairstyles because I am still learning. I never want people to feel uncomfortable paying a large lump sum for a hairstyle. My services are affordable and well-crafted for my clients.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In the next 5-10 years, I see my business exploring new chapters, such as selling hair or hair products for women and men in need. I like to thank God first and foremost. I want to convey a big shoutout to my family for their continuous support. I like to also thank the late Mrs. Regina for her aspiration for me to become a hairstylist. And last but not least, I would like to thank my clients and friends for helping me in this continuous successful business.
