Meet Amanda Anthony

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Anthony.

Amanda, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a hairstylist, I guess you could say that the fashion world has always called to me. My dad has always referred to me as his “radical” daughter, and I suppose in many ways the shoe fits. Ever since Instagram became a platform for people to inspire, I’ve had a desire to be a part. So a little over a year ago, I sat down with my husband and told him I wanted to start a fashion page, and his response was nothing short of all in. So I began with a monthly budget, purchasing from brands I aligned with and hoped to eventually work with so that I could start tagging and promoting. After about six months and somewhat of a portfolio established, I started to reach out to different brands and began collaborating. It’s a lot of fun really. I’ve really built some valuable relationships.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wouldn’t say smooth, but I wouldn’t say roughly either. The algorithm on Instagram can be incredibly frustrating for any business, so there are the highs and lows of that. You have to learn to just take it in stride and keep focusing on putting out quality content, which would be my other emotional roller coaster. It took me a while to find my creative “niche”. It’s not only about your content, but the aesthetic and feel of your page as a whole. That is an area I feel I’m always evolving and changing.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Well, the main purpose for myself in why I wanted to start this is to empower others. Style doesn’t have an age. And it doesn’t stop with a certain career or once you become a mother for example. It’s really easy to neglect loving ourself and lose that pride. So yea, that’s probably the thing that makes me the most proud. I have two daughters that see that they too can be a mom with a full-time career and look good doing it!

My page, however, is known for style and content creation. I love a good moody pic of coffee or a sunset, as well as showcasing several different looks a week. So you’ll see a lot of contrast of depth and space on my feed. It can be really difficult to set yourself apart as there’s a major saturation of fashion influencers. So I really try to set myself apart through my content creation.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
That’s a funny question. I often find myself realizing there’s very little in my life, past and present, to complain about. Whether that’s been luck or not, I’m not sure. I am a doer. When I want to accomplish something, I come up with a plan to make it happen. I’m a big believer that only you are responsible for your happiness and success. So I’m sure I’ve been lucky in certain areas, and in the other unfortunate areas, you work through them and find the good.
