Today we’d like to introduce you to A’maya Harrod.
A’maya, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I remember this day perfectly. I was working at LA fitness and I had just got taken off of the schedule for a week for an incident that was not even my fault but I suffered the consequences for it. Highly upset, I was doing some online therapy shopping when I was thinking to myself “I can’t keep working for someone else, I want to be my own boss, make my own money, and my own schedule, doing something I truly love. My mind soon drifted off from that topic. Realizing that every boutique and online store that I had went on had no cute handbags and all of the ones that I seem to love were way overpriced at that moment it hit me, I popped up and ran to the kitchen where my mom was I said “mom what if I opened an online bag boutique” she thought the idea was great and from there it’s been nothing but hard work and dedication. Two months later on April 29th, TheBagBoutiq was launched on my 17th birthday.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. From corona just starting to pivot, inventory being delayed for long periods of times, discouraging feelings, amongst other things, I made my way through it. I’m truly grateful for my mom being there and helping and it supporting me every step of the way.
TheBagBoutiq – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
TheBagBoutiq is an online handbag boutique that specializes in purses and cross bodies, for now. Soon enough, we will be specializing in luggage, book bags, computer bags, etc. what I am most proud about when it comes to my company is that we are real. It’s way deeper than the money and “clout” for us. I think what sets us apart from others is that there is no one else only selling bags in my area.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I feel that success is all about what you make it. I don’t think it’s about how much money you have or how many orders you have sold. I think that it is about how you represent your brand and what your customers may have to say about your brand. If you are lacking that professionalism or if you were just trying to make a fast dollar instead of putting your best foot forward, then that’s definitely not going to help you succeed when it comes to your brand. Something that has your name behind it.
