Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Hillary.
Amber, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
A hair salon owner was the last thing I thought I would be. Fresh out of college, I imagined I’d put my marketing degree to use at some elite advertisement firm. Instead, I found myself in a cubicle listening to a lot of podcast and audiobooks while creating spreadsheets and responding to tons of emails. Though I was grateful for the easy and well-paid job, I knew that was not my passion.
Being the daughter of a hairstylist, hair came natural to me. But all through high school and college hair was just my side hustle. I was stuck on the dream of going to a four year college, getting a degree and working in corporate. After listening to Girl Boss by Sophia Amoruso and several other self-help podcast and audiobooks, it clicked. I needed a career I was passionate about, and what stuck with me through the years was doing hair. So I left my job and signed up for the closest most affordable cosmetology school. 18 months later, I was official!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My first struggle was convincing my parents that leaving a great salary paying position to go to cosmetology school was a great idea.
Then I had to finish an 18 months program while working part-time.
After finishing school, the job hunt began to find a salon that I could continue to learn and grow in. I worked in all types of salons. Braid shops, weave shops, natural hair salons, and even a luxury salon and spa. Each salon taught me something different, but none were quite right.
Until one day, I decided to start my own, which has been the biggest struggle yet. Being your own boss is hard, but rewarding at the same time.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Pure Posh Beauty Lounge – what should we know?
I’m a hairstylist/mua and owner of Pure posh beauty lounge. I specialize in lace installs and micro links. Pure posh is known for quality raw hair extensions, organic hair care line and glam styling. I am most proud of my mission. Which sets me apart. It’s hard to find stylist that value both healthy hair and a great looking weave. I do both!

My parents help me in every way possible. Because of their hard work, I was able to chase my dreams and not just a paycheck! Family and friends for supporting and keeping me focused. And my clients for staying loyal. Thank you so much!
