Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Kendrick.
Amber, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in a small town named Thomaston, Georgia, about an hour and a half south of Atlanta. Small towns have their charms, but it didn’t take long before I realized I craved more opportunities. The day after my high school graduation, I drove to Atlanta with my belongings, and I’ve been here ever since!
I’ve always loved makeup, and I looked up to my older sister, Stephanie, who is also a makeup artist and a licensed esthetician. She moved to Atlanta years before me, so we were united and I started assisting her with all types of makeup gigs. A few years later, I met an internationally published photographer named Greg Truelove, where I took on the role as his makeup artist, stylist, and production assistant.
My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, and she mentioned all the harsh side effects of chemo, including her skin becoming parched. I wanted to help relieve her pain in any way I could, so I started making her some bath bombs to soothe her skin while also giving her a spa-like aromatherapy experience. Soon after giving a few bath bombs out to my friends and family, they began requesting more, as they liked the nontoxic and all-natural ingredients, and of course, the invigorating scents! Then one day, I saw my favorite necklace with a grenade pendant and thought: that would be a cute bath bomb shape! After many trials and errors in perfecting the grenade shape, Badass Bath Bombs was born!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Creating bath bombs takes quite some patience, to say the least! Now try to make them in shape as cattywampus as a grenade, which left me scratching my head for a long time. It’s still something I’m constantly trying to perfect today since they are handmade one at a time.
There were many trials and errors with bar soaps and whipped soap, but I’m currently taking more time to study and master these formulas before I create and list them for sale!
Badass Bath Bombs – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I really wanted to create something new and fun for bath bomb lovers. I am proud to have been the first to create bath bombs in a 3D grenade shape. They are such a hit! I also expanded to other best-selling products like the Chill Pills, Sugar Skull Aromatherapy Shower Fizzies, and the beloved Swarovski Skull Surprise bath bombs.
My knowledge of makeup comes with knowledge of the importance of skincare, so I also wanted to create quality, good-for-you products to help people feel their best. I still put tons of time and research into discovering and keeping up with the best, locally-sourced suppliers for nontoxic and all-natural ingredients. As the owner-operator, I do it all – everything from social media posts to ordering ingredients and packing and shipping. I love writing, so naming the bath bombs and writing the descriptions is a lot of fun! While I am a one-woman show for Badass Bath Bombs, but I do receive lots of help and support from my loved ones.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
It’s an honor to have been asked to fill a 500 custom bath bomb order for Medals of America for their holiday catalog a couple of years ago. I adore seeing photos and videos of people from all over the US using and enjoying my products! Each time I receive a new five star review, it makes me giddy as if it were the first time!
