Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Staples.
Hi Amber, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am the CEO and Creative Director of Stapled, LLC. I started my career in the corporate sector. I worked with national brands including Bacardi, Smoothie King and iHop, developing sales plans to increase customer retention and planning trade shows and events. I worked closely with my previous CEO and was pivotal in the growth of their sales team and trade show presence.
After planning my own 250-person wedding, I decided to take a leap of faith and start my event planning company in 2019. I began planning events from my dining room table while simultaneously working a full-time corporate job. I was able to grow the company quickly and within a year, I quit my corporate job to pursue my business full-time. Within two years, I opened my first events venue in the heart of Chicago. I now manage a large portfolio of venues, my business averages 3-4 events per week and I oversee an all women team of 10. I was able to grow a 6 figure business in less than a year and am constantly growing and learning within this industry.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Is it ever a smooth road? The biggest struggle that I had to overcome was balance. I got to a point in my career where the business was growing so quickly that I could no longer balance my corporate career with my passion. I had to make a very tough decision to either leave my corporate job or stop pursuing my dream. After months of going back and forth, I decided to leave the comfort of my corporate job and boy was it tough. I worked my butt off and demanded a 6-figure income in corporate America. I went from 6-figures to literally nothing. In fact, I had invested so much into the marketing and startup of my business that I was in the negative. This really motivated me and pushed me to work as hard as I could. I had to make this decision worth it and after 8 months, my business began reporting profits.
We’ve been impressed with Stapled Events, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Stapled Events is a premier event production, design and event staffing company. We have venue locations throughout the Chicagoland area and clients throughout the US and Mexico. With a strong corporate footprint, Stapled Events has grown tremendously in a very short time. We have had the pleasure of working with brands like Courvoisier, Under Armour, NFLPA, the Women of the NFL and much more. Stapled Events is owned and operated by a team of women, who execute exceptional events that achieve business objectives and exceed expectations. We maintain a big-picture philosophy with a focus on the goals and a critical eye on the details – all with seeming ease and efficiency.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
FAMILY. I would not be the woman that I am if it were not for my family. My husband has supported me through all of my business endeavors and was the reason that I felt comfortable enough to leave my corporate job. My husband is my backbone and is always rooting for me to win. He believes in me, even when I don’t believe in myself. We have a one year old son and everything that I do is to build a legacy for him.
I also matter most to myself. This is an answer that we forget about sometimes. I matter to me and it’s important that I do what’s best to help me grow. If we do not take care of ourselves, it is impossible to take care of anything else around us.
