Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Vittoria.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’m an artist working in New York City; my work focuses on the accurate portrayal women within art, and I have collaborated with like-minded brands, such as Gucci, The New York Times, and Instagram, on pieces that further said narrative.
Please tell us about your art.
My work is inspired by women; the women I’m fortunate enough to know, read about, and pass by in this world. The aim of my work is to dismantle the societal stereotypes set upon women. My pieces focus on femininity and the female form, leveraging physical traits such as body hair, overtly extended limbs, and rounded features.
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
I’m very fortunate to have a family who has supported me emotionally and financially when I’ve needed it; that privilege in addition to working full time (with freelance on nights and weekends) until I was financially stable enough to freelance full time, enabled me to take the leap into the work-life I currently have. There is no incorrect path to a freelance life; whatever you feel works best for you, whether that is immediately diving in, working several part time jobs, and/or working full time until you are ready – all of these options (and more!) are okay.
