Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Williams.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Amber. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My love for photography started back in high school. I had a really great art teacher named Celeste Brown that identified that I had an eye for taking pictures and she really pushed me to explore and develop my craft. High school was a really rough time for me.
My family struggled with homelessness, financial problems, and health issues. I almost got lost in all of that. I will forever be grateful to her for paying attention to me at a time when I really needed someone to pay attention and point me in the right direction. She essentially was the first person to place a camera in my hand and say “go shoot.” She helped me find something that was mine to focus on instead of what was happening with my family. I’ve had a camera in my hand ever since. Up until two years ago, I was working mostly as a freelance photographer, while working full time as an academic advisor. Wanting to do more than just a freelance gig here or there, with the encouragement of family, friends, and the students that I work with, I took a leap of faith and decided to launch Amber Shanice Photography.
Launching my business has been an amazing experience, and I’m amazed at how quickly things have taken off thus far. I have had the opportunity to shoot weddings, maternity sessions, and portraits, as well as quite a few events. I have also had the pleasure of traveling the world and documenting my travels through some pretty amazing images. I am truly looking forward to what’s next for Amber Shanice Photography.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting my business hasn’t necessarily been an easy road. My plan was to launch in 2014, but due to other demands, I had to press pause on those plans. I got discouraged during this time, even considered quitting. But I knew deep down that it was meant for me to launch, just not in the timing that I had expected. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow while continuing to work diligently toward your goals. That is exactly what I did, even in the midst of sorting out my finances, working full time, and experiencing hardships. I knew this was something that I wanted and needed to do, so I continued to plan my work and work my plan and it has paid off.
Amber Shanice Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Amber Shanice Photography is an Atlanta-based photography company specializing in portrait, event, maternity, and travel photography. As a photographer, I am known for my portraits and maternity shots, as well as for my travel photography through my Instagram handle @amberaroundthaglobe. I am proud of my company’s growth. What sets me apart from others is my passion for my craft and my skill in capturing the essence of my subjects. I really try to go above and beyond to tell stories in my images.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career thus far has been when I had the opportunity to take photographs at my Alma Mater, Georgia State University. That may seem small for some, but for me, that was everything, because I feel such a strong connection to Georgia State as it has contributed to so much of my growth as an individual and to the growth of my business.
