Meet Amelia Wallis of Serendipity Verity Photography in Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amelia Wallis.

Amelia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, my mother was a single mom who showed me at a young age the journey of an entrepreneur. Watching her ambition continue even after setbacks, led me to have the same driven spirit. In the third grade, I started making and selling handmade items and ended up in the principle’s office, but that didn’t hinder my belief that I was going to be an entrepreneur one day. Before I could even drive a car, I tackled three jobs, one of which I walked to every day until I saved up enough money to make my first investment into myself: a Canon Eos T6. My passion for photography was the precursor to my first ever business, Serendipity Verity Photography. Starting in 2015, I now have had over 200 clients and business has been booming. Five years later and I’ve turned my dream into a reality!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t believe that any entrepreneur could tell you it’s been a smooth road. There will always be bumps. One of the biggest struggles starting my business was that I couldn’t afford to do it full time, so I would be working my two other jobs while still trying to fit in an hour or two hour-long photoshoots in between. And ask any person who works a 9-5, most the time managers do not want to give you off days! However, I continued on and kept pushing until I got to where I am today, able to do my passion full time.

Serendipity Verity Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My company is named Serendipity Verity Photography. The name Serendipity was my first horses name, and it also means to come across something without looking for it, which has always stood out to me a lot due to my belief that everything that is supposed to happen will happen. I started my business in 2015, I specialize in all different types of photography from senior portraits to editorial to weddings. I believe I am most known for is being able to create an image in my mind, and then make it happen. I am most proud of how much my business has grown the past few years, how I started at only 30 followers to now 1300 followers. The thing that sets me apart from others would be my ambition. There have been some nights where I am not finished doing a photoshoot until 4 am, and then have to wake up for another at 8 am. However, this is what I love to do more than anything and so I keep going!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, success is not about wealth or fame. Success is when a client tells me they’ve never seen better pictures of themself before and getting to see the smile on their face. Success is being able to do a photoshoot with a nonconfident person and watch them leave being even the slightest bit more confident about themself. That’s what makes it all worth it.
