Meet Amina Peterson of Atlanta Institute of Tantra & Divine Sexuality

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amina Peterson.

Amina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am Amina Peterson, the founder of the Atlanta Institute of Tantra & Divine Sexuality, and host of the Fix Your Sex Podcast. I am a healer, sexual doula, intimacy coach, tantric sex educator, sexual revolutionary and activist.

I began practicing massage after completing a 500 hr program at the New Chicago School of Bodywork and Massage in 2004. A former sexual surrogate and graduate of the University of IL (B.A. Sociology), I was a birth doula for 3 years, a personal trainer and fitness coach for over 11 years and yoga instructor (200RYT) for 5.

After a year of practice in Chicago, I moved to Hawaii where I was able to learn and share a more sexual based approach to massage therapy. My extensive background in fitness and health has made my work especially focused on helping lovers heal their wounds related to body image, sexual abuse, self esteem and identity.

In 2006, I launched women’s circles in Honolulu to provide a space for women to focus on their sexual expansion free from distractions of the male gaze. There, with access to great shamans, wonderful clients and the healing energies of the land and the ocean, I mastered the art of lingham and yoni massage. My private healing practice, Fearless Giving: Atlanta Tantra (formerly Tantra in Paradise), relocated from Hawaii to Atlanta in 2017.

I am passionate about the ability to heal and empower through love, sexual growth, and freedom. I’m dedicated to showing people how to live authentically in every moment. I teach and speak at events across the US and I’m available for coaching, workshops and a variety of sessions- over the internet, in-person, or by phone .

My core beliefs that guide my practice are:
Feminine Divine and Worship
Intentional Touch
Sacred Sex and Intimacy
Existing Consciously
Clearing Sexual Shame, Guilt and Fear
Recognition of the Inner Masculine AND Feminine
Sex Magic

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s never a smooth road when dealing with sex in America, particularly in the South. One of my major obstacles has been SESTA/FOSTA, a despicable act passed by this current government designed to harm sex workers under the disguise of aiding sex trafficking victims.

Another obstacle has been outdated puritanical belief systems that are in place to restrict pleasure and control women’s’ bodies. We live in a country that rejects pleasure based sex education and that rejects science, while at the same time treating ancestral healing practices like witchcraft.

I work everyday to overcome these obstacles in my practice.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Atlanta Institute of Tantra & Divine Sexuality – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m known for my Tantra Tuesdays and my work to heal individuals and couples as they approach intimacy with new eyes.

Tantra Tuesdays is a weekly educational workshop where we discuss topics in sacred sexuality and healing.

Last year, we successfully launched the Atlanta Tantra Festival, the only tantra festival in the world that centers Black women.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are looking forward to opening the first church in America dedicated strictly to the practice of Taoist-based tantric principles, sacred sexuality, and to celebrate and honor the divine feminine.
