Meet Andre Gomez of Porch Light Latin Kitchen in Smyrna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andre Gomez.

Andre, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a young adult, I started working in the hospitality industry at my grandparent’s hotel in Puerto Rico. While in college, started working in restaurants and fell in Love with food and having people enjoy it. As a young cook, working my way in South Florida and eventually ending up in Atl the goal of opening my own business seemed very real.

After 5 years as Executive Chef for one of the South’s best chefs and people, Kevin Rathbun, it was time to bring my own flavors and experience to my neighborhood in Smyrna. My wife and I took on the task of opening our own restaurant. We opened in November 2015 and haven’t looked back since. Our goal has been simple, feed and take care of people

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been smoother than I expected but a lot of hard work and long days have been worth it. We have great people that we share this journey with. We have been very fortunate to have great staff and guests as well as suppliers that work with us to make it better than most.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a small restaurant in the heart of Smyrna. We offer Latin food using as much local product as we can. I’m Puerto Rican and there are not many Caribbean nor Latin American style restaurants in our area. We have become known for our hospitality and flavorful food. We offer a unique experience for our guests, with our open kitchen people can see, smell and taste everything we are making. As a company we are most proud of are the connections we are able to make with people. It’s what sets us apart really.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I would definitely recommend people to start a business in our city. People here want to make a connection with local restaurants and businesses they can support
