Meet Andrea Culpepper of The Kids Salon in Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Culpepper.

Andrea, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My partner, Jewel Chesson and I met while working at a children’s salon together. We realized that we both had desires to be entrepreneurs. Forward five years, we decided to start The Kids Salon. We believed in our dream too much that I left a big four accounting firm senior consultant position and Jewel left her salon management position to pursue our dream and start The Kids Salon.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of our biggest obstacles has been working IN the business as well as ON the business. There is so much that happens behind the scenes in a business from marketing and accounting to strategic partnerships and community involvement etc. Being able to provide great service to our clients and maintain all the behind the scenes stuff is a balancing act that we are still trying to master.

The other obstacle is finding people to hire that fit our brand and our culture and love being a part of The Kids Salon.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Kids Salon – what should we know?
Giving the best kids salon experience is our pinky promise! Our specialty is kid’s haircut.

The Kids Salon is a playfully modern and upscale kids hair services boutique dedicated to providing the best service to our clients. Our kid-friendly stylists are trained to provide a comfortable atmosphere while cutting and styling kid’s hair with patience and speed. We use haircare products that kid-friendly and safe.

At The Kids Salon, we provide plenty of activities to keep your kids entertained. From writing on our chalk wall to watching movies and playing games on an IPad, blowing bubbles, and enjoying lollipops and snacks, The Kids Salon has the right touch to make getting a haircut a fun experience for any kid.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
You have to have a can-do attitude with action to match. It’s like that quote that says ” The person who thinks they can and the person who thinks they can’t are both right”. As cliche as it sounds you really can do anything, you put your mind to.

Also, I am BIG on writing down your goals. There is something powerful about seeing my goals written down.
