Meet Andrea Goss of The Beverly Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Goss.

Andrea, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I decided to become a salon owner in 2012. I was working in Buckhead but was servicing a lot of clients that were traveling from near and far but particularly South Atlanta. With the demand of having a Buckhead experience on the Southside my wheels started turning. I begin to do my research about salons where I could relocate and wasn’t successful and I was living in Hapeville, Ga. It became a no brainer. The convenience of the airport and all major highways confirmed that gut feeling I was having.

I opened my first location with the help of an angel investor. She’s known since the beginning of my career from attending church together and never was she a client. She admired my heart work and determination from what she seen from a distance and asked me how could she help. Little did I know it would be a financial help. I started with the basics with very simple decor. I out grew the space in about 6 months to a year but because of the 3 year lease I stayed.

I opened The Beverly 2.0 in May 2016 with a bigger vision for not just my salon and personal brand but the culture of the black salon.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been a pretty smooth road. I have experienced a few hiccups personally but nothing that affected the clients and the business flow.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a full-time hairstylist and makeup artist. I specialize in minimal chemical usage which in return maintains healthy hair. I’m known most importantly for my timing and oh, I’m really a great colorist. I mention the culture of the black salon earlier. It is well known and expected to be in the salon for hours. I have a 1:15 minute turn around. I pride myself on the respect of my time and my client’s times.

The one thing that sets me a part is my ability to connect immediately. I never meet a stranger. I think that has taken me very far in the business. I’ve been in the salon since I was a young teenager. I’ve seen things change and evolve. I know what makes people come back and spend their money.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Atlanta is an awesome city for growth. I think it gives people the opportunity to fail and then make the changes and jump back in without missing a beat. I’ve had clients move here and just jump right it. It’s easy to connect with the right person but just as easy to connect with the wrong person but like I said that is when growth comes.
