Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Jones.
Andrea, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. With family from and that still lives in Panama. I have always been involved with Art and Interior Design. Initially studying Interior Design before switching majors to Sculpture. Graduated with a Sculpture degree from Georgia State in December 2018. Had my most recent Sculpture installation at the Museum of Modern Perspective on the Westside. Currently working full time in Interior Design in West Midtown. Planning on continuing my education with Sculpture further. Would like to become a Sculpture Professor eventually, and continue to teach yoga. I was certified to teach yoga in 2016 at Nirvana Yoga Studio in Grant Park.
Generally, my art focuses on ending or healing generational traumas, as well as cultural preservation. Welding with steel is my preferred medium, but I also paint and work in textiles as well.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not always. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease in 2015 that has drastically changed the way I interact with my own body. It has prevented fast progress in my art. It has taught me balance and patience, and that everything blooms in its own timing.
Please tell us about Andrea Art Jones.
I am most proud of the fact that I’ve put myself through school and pursued my passions regardless of what others thought or what society deems successful.
