Meet Andrea-Lynn Butler of Wax Xperience in South Atlanta / McDonough

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea-Lynn Butler.

Andrea-Lynn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Born July 23rd, 1984 in Kansas City, Kansas. (Wyandotte County) Raised in a single-parent home with my mother, my father is currently serving a life sentence in prison he went in when I was about six years old. I started dance school in kck at Carol Byrd’s dance and gymnastics at the age of 2 1/2 being the youngest! And amongst the first African American girl to attend that dance studio. I started modeling with MTC modeling agency at the age of five modeling for companies like Hallmark, Mr Good Cents, Worlds of Fun and Payless Shoes. My mother molded me to always believe in myself and go for whatever I wanted if I believed and seen it within. My mother was very spiritual; she wanted everyone to know thyself and know their true purpose in life. I started what we call manifesting at a very young age. I have come across a lot of tests along my journey at the age of 35 due to my decisions and life choices. I decided to go to esthetics school in 2010 due to me suffering with cystic acne.

During Esthetic school, I was introduced to waxing were I found a passion in hair removal. My personality and drive landed me a position at a top known wax salon where I hit amazing numbers and sales and built an amazing clientele when I decided I wanted a little bit more than Kansas City, KS could offer me and I needed new beginnings. I researched transferring jobs to another wax center in another state. My heart was set on moving to LA when I discovered the cost of living was entirely too expensive for me and my family. I decided to move to Atlanta in March 2014 with my family mother of two boys. Only visiting GA twice, just to see where I wanted to stay because I was given the opportunity to transfer wax salons working in Brookhaven, GA. I had no family in GA just one younger cousin and my faith. I have hit many roadblocks that should’ve forced me to move back home but I was too determined to make things work in GA.

The biggest obstacle I had to face was not being able to start work right away due to Georgia Cosmetology telling me I had to take my esthetics exam again to get my license here in GA. I had transferred my license through resporicity which means you can transfer state to state if you have enough hours and qualify… I wasn’t able to start work due to me not being granted my professional licensing. I started to give up not having a job and bills for the first several months of me moving to GA. That’s when I started to remember all my mother taught me as a young girl and I started to mediate and put together a prayer alter with stones & crystals where I discovered the ability to really think and speak things into existence. I was adamant about not taking the exam / practical test again when I called and asked if there was anything I could do besides take the test because I was overqualified and deserved my license and was told to set up a meeting with the board of cosmetology through email.

I was granted an appointment to meet with the board a day before my oldest son’s first day of kindergarten. I accidentally got the two dates mixed up and missed the board meeting. I have never been the one to give up or take no for an answer so I emailed the board about the mix-up and was granted another date. I was told that I wouldn’t be able to get my esthetic license without paying fees and taking the test and I did just what they said I wouldn’t be able to. Being the first person to ever be granted their cosmetology license same day in front of the board of cosmetology in Macon GA! Wanna talk about speaking things into existence. Awaiting to actually get my esthetics license to actively post five months of being in GA my townhome was found to be affected with black mold that caused me and my children to get sick. Me and my family was then moved out of the home by the property management and placed in a hotel for a month and was told we couldn’t return home because it was contaminated.

Property management put locks on my property with all our belongings in the home which turned into a chaotic situation and we had to drive back to Kansas. Eager to get back to GA, I realized I didn’t care where we stayed I just knew it wasn’t gonna be Kansas City, KS so I moved from Lithonia GA to Stone Mountain in a neighborhood that wasn’t the best but I knew the move was just temporary. I set up an altar and started to meditate in my closet. I wrote all my visions, dreams, goals, desires, frustration, etc. on paper burning different affirmation candles visualizing what I wanted to attract in my life. I did cleansing / energizing baths with stones trying to decide my direction with so much that had already occurred in such short of time. I created a vision board with my family New Years 2015, I was focused on manifesting all my dreams like becoming a known celebrity waxer, waxing all the girls in the gentlemen clubs lol. I attended every networking event around Atlanta, trying to get a fill for the energy. I decided not to take the position I moved to Georgia for after finally receiving my license. I accepted a job at a med spa making $25 dollars an hour.

During employment with the MedSpa I discovered that I wasn’t pleased with Management and prayed for a new job opportunity doing only waxing what I truly love and the best hands down at… I interviewed with a wax salon 45min from my home only making $8.50 an hour. Listening to my inner self (subconscious mind), I decided to leave the medspa making $25 for $8.50. I mediated about the situation and one thing I know is God will tell you to make moves that you may not understand and you got to have faith. I worked at that wax salon for two years when my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian / stomach cancer when I decided it would be best if I moved back home to be with my mother. My mother Maria Kline founder of O.CC.F Our Community Children’s Future, Activist, Freedom Fighter & Leader had never been sick and this was a total shock for my entire family. With non or little compassion from my previous employer, prompt me to give my notice to leave the wax salon which in the end ended up being the best decision for me. Before actually returning home to Kansas City KS. I spoke with a client which was a cancer specialist and she notified me that her hospital would cover my mother 100% chemo treatment and will give her all the guidance that she needed if I stayed in Georgia and my mother had no insurance. My mother moved to GA Sep 2016 after undergoing surgery to remove the cancer to start her chemo treatments…

Soon after, I was presented with a storefront space in the next county over from the wax salon I worked at, which I was afraid to even pursue due to me not knowing much about opening a business and I didn’t have no credit and my mother was sick. I was afraid of the unknown. True story years before me and my significant other drew a layout of a wax salon I would one day own cause I always knew I would be a salon owner. The building I was presented looked identical to the drawing on the paper just opposite sides. The realtor on the building wouldn’t take no for an answer cause I told her I didn’t think this was for me. The realtor Ms. Cynthia was a God sent Angel she wasn’t gonna let me pass up the opportunity or what she said was my divine purpose and she personally drove to my house for me to sign the lease. I opened Wax Xperience my first location on Nov 8th, 2016 and by Jan 2016, I was hit with a lawsuit from previous employer trying to shut my salon down and sue me for opening a salon and falsely made statements that wasn’t true. The case was ruled in my favor. I then opened my second location next door to Wax Xperience one year later knocking out the wall combining the two salons into one big salon offering services like hair removal, facials, yoni steams, foot detox, body treatments, infrared sauna and also a oxygen bar turning my craft into a holistic practice with my mom as my receptionist. I lost my mom to cancer on January 28th, 2018 I buried my mom in KCK Feb 10th, 2018 and returned back to the salon on Feb 13th, 2018 still having to run a salon and attend to clients.

Throughout my journey, I have been able to stay mentally focused and strong by mediating and connecting with my inner self. I have hosted several women empowerment /vision board events one particular being Vision Burn & Manifest Jan 26th, 2019 the event was created for women to visualize what they want to attract in every aspect of their life and release whatever that was holding them back from living life in their divine purposes. The event was pushed back due to my house burning in a house fire on New Year’s Eve Dec 31st, 2018 at 11:45pm right before you scream Happy New Year!!!! Causing us to lose everything. My entire family lost everything which was a tragic specially for my two younger sons being around the holidays. The fire made me and my family look at life different and love on a different level that can’t be explained. Since the loss of my mother and the house fire, I look at myself as a phoenix bird getting a fresh new start from the ashes of everything that I have been through. I wake up everyday living in my purpose being able to have a salon that people fly in or drive hours just to get wax from me. I enjoy gifting my energy through waxing. Wax Xperience is more than just a wax salon. Its where women can come and leave everything that goes on in the world outside. I speak and give life to every guest that walks through my doors. I just celebrated my three year anniversary on November 8th, 2019 and I’m truly thankful for all the support that my salon his encountered and I look forward for expanding my gift to the world. I enjoy making every Queen feel and look beautiful from the outside in.

I will continue to manifest just like my mother taught me. You will never know how it feels to go through the fire unless you actually go through it. Thats whats makes us stronger and builds your story. I love everything about being able to manifest all your desires while looking fabulous and being smooth.

I created my first vision board in 2015 in 2019. I am driving my dream truck that I drove off the lot with 5 miles and I have manifested EVERYTHING ON MY BOARD! Out of everything I lost in my house fire my vision board was in the corner of my garage and didn’t burn and made it out. I will be hosting my next event on January 1: 11 2020 = 1/11/2020.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life is never a smooth road! But that’s what makes us keep faith and continue going.

The biggest obstacle I had to face was not being able to start work right away after moving to Georgia from Kansas City, KS due to Georgia Cosmetology telling me I had to take my esthetics exam again to get my license. I transferred my license by doing resporicity which meaning you can transfer your cosmetology license from one state to another if you have enough hours and qualify. I wasn’t able to start work due to me not being granted my professional licensing. I started to give up not having a job and bills for the first several months of moving to GA. That’s when I started to remember all my mother taught me as a young girl and I started to mediate and put together a prayer alter with stones & crystals where I discovered the ability to really think and speak things into existence.

I have never been the one to give up or take no for an answer, so I emailed the board about the mix-up and was granted another date. I was told that I wouldn’t be able to get my esthetic license without paying fees and taking the test and I did just what they said I wouldn’t be able to! Being the first person to ever be granted their cosmetology license same day in front of the board of cosmetology in Macon GA wanna talk about speaking things into existence.

I opened Wax Xperience my first location Nov. 8th, 2016 and by Jan 2016, I was hit with a lawsuit from previous employer trying to shut my salon down and sue me for opening a salon and falsely made statements that wasn’t true. The case was ruled in my favor. When God rules in your favor and you’re destined for something nothing or no one will or can stop you. Accept the challenges so that you can feel the exhilaration of the victory. I then manifested and opened my second location next door to Wax Xperience one year later.

I lost my mother to ovarian cancer the beginning of January 2018 and New Years Eve 2018, my house caught fire and lost everything. I look at myself as a phoenix bird getting a fresh new start from the ashes of everything that I have been through or anything holding me back. We don’t grow when things are easy we grow when we face challenges, and my life completely has taking a turn, but I am excited for 2020 and everything I have Launching for Wax Xperience and Secrets To Beauti my new upcoming business launching January 11th

When my house caught on fire and my family lost everything, my guests stepped in and helped my family even though I didn’t want to accept it. I would love to give Thanks to everyone that helped my family in any way.
