Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Rivera.
Andrea, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in Medellin, Colombia. My parents immigrated to the United States when I was five years old and grew up in Miami – so Latin culture is something that’s very important to me. I came to Atlanta in 1992 to attend college and like everyone else, fell in love with the city and decided to call Atlanta home. I worked for Cox Media Group and iHeart Radio for nine years, where I cut my teeth in the advertising world. After seeing a need to provide digital marketing to companies in the Latino market and for helping brands looking to reach Latinos, I realized I could be a bridge between both and opened H3 Media. We specialize in brand development, web design, and marketing strategy. Our verticals include legal, medical, and construction. H3 Media has been in business since 2013 and built a strong portfolio of clients along the way.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m a single mother who started my professional life in the corporate world. As a Latina in Atlanta 26 years ago, that was a very lonely place at a time when professional Latinos were few and far between. Not only did I not have people who looked like me in leadership, but no champions that could help me move along the corporate ladder. When I finally got fed up with the corporate world and decided to go into business for myself, the next struggle was doing something that even my own family did not believe in.
My mother has a second-grade education and speaks little English. She was a faithful employee for 30 years in the same company and did not understand why or how I was going to earn a living. I did not have a support system to get feedback from, to sound off ideas, or to help me with the struggles. Just people who were scared for me and thought they encouraged me emotionally could do nothing more. I’ve mostly learned how to be a business owner on my own and after eight years, finally have the support and respect of my family. I’ve also had to do all of this as a single mom, with the safety net of a spouse’s income or a day job. I went cold-turkey when I started this and if I don’t sell, I don’t eat and neither do my three employees and their families. It’s very hard to be the first person in the family to start a business.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about H3 Media – what should we know?
My proudest moment was winning an Emmy for Best Commercial in 2019! The commercial was inspired by my mother, making it even more special.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Creativity and problem-solving skills. I am able to see the big picture quickly. I’m also very committed to my community, to helping entrepreneurs like me to succeed and work hard to ensure they are set up to win.
