Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Sanabria.
Andrea, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In May 2018, I graduated from Peachtree Ridge High located in Gwinnett County. My families from Colombia, so they had planned a summer trip to our home country for the summer before I began my journey into adulthood and college. A few weeks into our trip, my mom surprised me with a lash course in order to get my certification in eyelash extensions. When I got my certification, my mom encouraged me to use this new skill I have to build something from it. In the back of my head, I always had my love for makeup and beauty aesthetics. I knew that if I began a small business with my skill, I would create an empire built from genuine care and love for what I do. As soon as I got back from my trip, I began practicing on mannequins and literally used all my friends as models to help me be better at my craft. I decided to begin my business in August 2018 once I got to school in Kennesaw State University, working from my dorm everyday. Now, a year and four months later, I’m thriving with growing and learning everyday that I work with clients.
Has it been a smooth road?
To be honest, my answer could go both ways. Although I’ve loved my journey within lashing, there has been rough patches. But I believe that it’s normal and part of a beauticians journey to feel discouraged at times, especially as a young woman. It can be intimidating to see older women with more experience in my field, sometimes it can make me feel small. But I remind myself that I can only use what I see from these amazing women to motivate me to be better, every day.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Lashes By Drea story. Tell us more about the business.
Lashes By Drea is my brand name, providing a service for safe eyelash extensions. Eyelash Extensions promote lash growth, as long as extensions are installed and removed in a safe manner they do no harm. I specialize in installing full sets of lash extensions, as well as removing them. Soon, I will add on to my services to provide a wider range of options for my clients to choose from, such as lash lifts and bottom lash extensions. I am most proud to be managing running a successful business as well as being a full-time student, I congratulate myself everyday 🙂 .
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
For the moment, I’m planning on working with other lash technicians to collaborate with ideas and create a bigger and wider range of services. Aside from lashing, I’m also in school for film production and want to work on set for movies helping with makeup and actors. Hopefully, I can bring in my skill into the film industry and provide services to actors and build my skills to work with makeup artists on set.
