Meet Andrea Sipl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Sipl.

Andrea, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Venezuela, I been an artist my entire life, but at the age of 17 I moved to the USA, and started pursuing a career in the arts. By the age of 25, I finished my Master’s degree in Illustration and animation at SCAD-Atlanta. After school, I started working on the animation industry in shows such s FX’s ARCHER. But after five fulfilling years, I decided to have career change and started working in the games and entertainment field. Currently, I work full time on gaming, and on the side, I do freelance, Comic/fantasy conventions, and gallery work.

Has it been a smooth road?
Ha! that is a tough question. So far everything has gone smoothly and worked out as planned. But it involved a lot of sacrifices and hard work. I had to sacrifice my health and social life. It is difficult to maintain two full-time jobs or two separate artist careers. The Studio Job, and the personal artwork after hours. Being in that situation leaves you with no free time, which leads to bad eating and sleep habits. So the biggest struggle for me has been fighting hard to achieve your goals but maintain a healthy lifestyle.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I do traditional oil paintings with focus in fantasy. My work frequently features angelic seraphic feminine figures with long, flowing hair, which seem to have been caught in an intimate moment the viewer was not supposed to ever witness. With an emphasis on companionship, trust, and innocence, I try to study the special bond that can exist between women and animals and turn its enigma into an expressible thought. Sometimes, my journey of revealing the beauty of nature leads me through enchanted forests, while other times, it is best continued through an artistic nude. No matter the theme of the piece, the “Awww(e)” factor should be transparent and convey an eerie kind of beauty.

I think I am known for making animals into royal beings, covered in jewels and crowns, against cloudy constellations nights skies or European gardens.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes absolutely, Decatur and east Atlanta is very artist friendly. So many hot spots and crafts shows. We also have so many conventions a year and the animation/gaming and entertainment studios here.
